OK, so it's the first one that I've ever made, I got the pattern figured out, but how much to you stuff a bustle? Should it be fluffy like a pillow or stiff like a tailors ham?
Hoop skirts are so much easier!!!

Hi Auntie,
I've made mine more like a pillow.

TY. After I put it up I thought that was kind of dingy. Who'd want to have a ham on their behind. Don't we keep trying to get rid of those?

I use both, and when I stuff the pillow ones, it's as much as I need to prevent it squashing down, but not so heavy it's a chore to wear all day.

I've got 5 different types of bustles. What kind are you making? I have a small pillow type that is lightly stuffed and then covered with stiff netting ruffles. The first bustle I made was the Laughing Moon bustle and it's stuffed like a tailors ham. I don't mind wearing it but it's difficult to wear in the car and in theater seats.
I prefer the cage bustles that fold up when you sit. And you can wear a little pillow bustle on top to get a good "tea tray" 1885 era look.
