:beg Has anyone got any low calorie ideas of what I can do with about 5 or 6 pounds of very small apples which are weighing my apple tree down ? They're not sweet enough or big enough to eat as they are, & as I have to watch the calories, I need some ideas which are not too fattening :beg

do you belong to weightwatchers or know any one that does...you can go online and find recipes that are pretty low in calorie....or try taking the apples, slice them and add low calorie caramel sauce on them...

:ty I love the idea of low cal caramel sauce. I must trawl the supermarkets for that. Yes, I'm a WeightWatchers gold member, & have kept many of the books , but can't remember where I put them ! I dieted, using my WeightWatchers knowledge, on my own, the 2nd 1/2 of last year, & lost 2 1/2 stones in 7 months. I hit goal the day before I went to Spain in February this year, & just don't want to get so big & blobby again. I adore apple pie, but even if I substitute sweetener for the sugar, the pastry's quite high in fat. I suppose I could make a low cal apple crumble, but I want something a bit different, as I've got so many of the darned things to eat my way through ! :ty

If you were carrying around "stones"...couldn't you just drop them instead of dieting??? :rofl :rofl :rofl :gg

What about apple cobbler?
Dough is a whole lot less fatting.
I have the recipe, if you want it?

2-3 medium apples
2 packs crescent rolls (low fat)
1 1/4 cups sugar or splenda or any low cal sweetner
2 sticks margarine (light)
1 tsp. cinammon
1 can diet Mt. Dew
Cut apples in small wedges and roll a couple of wedges in each crescent. Melt margarine, sugar, cinammon and pour over the rolled up apples in pan then pour Mt. Dew over top. Bake for app. 45 minutes at 350.
**Mt. Dew is a soft drink with a sweet citrus flavor in case you don't have it there it is a pepsi product.
These are very good and the apples can be substituted with blueberries, peaches or maybe pears. I think strawberries would be too juicy.

:ty That sounds really yummy. I've never seen cans of Mt Dew in the UK shops, so I must look for the Pepsi equivalent you mention. I shall keep this recipe somewhere safe :ty

:ty So much, TL. I've printed it, but I need a new black ink cartridge 'cos it's printed very faint. I'll wait 'till tomorrow morning, & have another look in daylight, & perhaps type it out in normal size letters, then keep it in my recipe drawer. I look forward to trying this 1, & the apple brown betty looks as if it could be adapted to a lower fat, lower cal version :ty

The mt dew is a pepsi product, maybe you will have a sweet citrus soft drink similar it is a light green color. Good luck.(these things are soooo good):tban

Another thing to watch for is the complex carbs in the pie crusts from the processed and bleached flour. Also not good for us that have type 2. Try using whole wheat flour in the pie crust or crumble instead.

:ty That would be a really nice variation on flavour, & much more healthy, too :ty
