As promised, instructions for fabric roses. Each rose consists of a centre and outer section sewn together.

Cut 4 each of the following squares in your fabric.

Fold each square along the line indicated and press, giving you four smaller and four larger triangles:-

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/maisondeverneur/EBAY/flowers/03.jpg

To form the centre section, take the four smaller triangles you now have, lap the 4 pieces one half way over the other to form a centre square:-

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/maisondeverneur/EBAY/flowers/04.jpg

Sew along the edges as below

http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/maisondeverneur/EBAY/flowers/05.jpg

Then gather the entire outer edge tightly into a puff (sorry about the quality of this pic but I couldnt figure out how to draw it in paintbrush!!)
http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s178/maisondeverneur/EBAY/flowers/06.jpg

Repeat the process with the four larger triangles but when gathering in the final stage push the smaller centre section inside the larger one and sew together.

With a bit of luck you should end up with one of the flowers shown below:-

I'm so glad you all like these! Has anybody had a try yet?

For those of you who have asked, the pattern is pictured below. It's an old vintage pattern, and I had a good look last night on EBay for Diane but I couldn't find one - I'll keep looking Diane. It's a McCall pattern (maybe there is a modern version??) number 1246. Happy hunting!!:-

My first attempt :rofl On the left, when the triangles are laid together with the fold on the outside of the square. On the right when the fold is on the inside the way it's supposed to be. This is a 1.75" square out of chiffon.

Now that I look at it I think this might be kind of pretty on a hat! Just clip off the frayed edges.

Thank's Kate:bow for the pattern info. I just bought this pattern on Ebay, I had to pay $56.95 for it....Ouch....

I found it lumped in a lot of 4 vintage patterns.... Search for vintage Mccall 40's lot. Some people just do not know what they have, I hope this helps!:jp

I was just watching the infamous McCall's fabric rose pattern on ebay....closing in a hour and up to $29.95 now, so I wasn't at all convinced I would be willing to spend more than that, despite what I have read on the Alley about previous prices.

Sooooo, I went to Joanne's for some buttons and other stuff and browsed the catalogs and i found :chick:chick VOGUE #7009, fabric roses on sale for $5.99. For those of you that have the McCalls I don't know if these are the same of not, but they look pretty nice and I am looking forward to making a few.

My store only had one pattern in stock, under accessories in the catalog. Check it out if you are looking for a rose pattern.

I couldn't resist looking on EBay and found two for you all:-

Beware of this next one - the listing title says it is the flower pattern, but the description says it is a different wedding gown pattern (???) you may want to check this one out before buying:-

I have that first pattern and it a good one. I used it to make the roses on my coral and ivory dress.

Darn, this picture doesn't show them very well, but they are along the back gather behind the knees.

Yep, that's the one I got for $5.99 at Joanne! I pulled out the tissues and there are roses in several sizes, complete with "leaves" and a fabric strip to attach them to. The patterns are only the flowers, a small bag and maybe a hairband. It looks pretty easy and I'm going to cut some out and try them tomorrow - have a plaid dress I want to put them on for Convention.

It is the exact pattern that is on e-bay, but you can get it at the fabric store on sale.

response from the seller of the "unsure" one (and it's as we probably already expected.. ;) ) Now lets hope they change their listing description...

Dear az-mauserlady,

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to look at my eBay store.

Yes,
Vogue 7009 is for the bridal accessories.

If you have any further
questions, please email me.

Lessons Learned

I tried this with cotton velvet. I think that if you are using velvet, it might be best to increase the size a bit. Mine ended up rather "ball-like." I will have to try again. I spent the rest of my alloted flower time curling feathers and making a magnolia, which still isn't finished.
