Hello,

I've noticed that some of you are posting photos that appear to be from a new book. I can't say I've always done things correctly. However, I've learned that when you post photos from books, that are copyrighted, you need to do a bibliographic citation.

A copyright is generally the life of the author plus either 50 or 70 years. See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyrig...d_fair_dealing

Here is a link to formats for online citations: http://www.bedfordstmartins.com/online/citex.html

...and an easy to use one for other citations: http://www.liu.edu/cwis/CWP/library/workshop/citmla.htm

Most old fashion plates are exempt from this requirement as they are beyond the copyright period.

Yep. Allie. You are right. Credit should be given when we post pics. Thanks for reminding us.

:ty Allie Mo, as I was wondering today if the post of the pictures in Firelands, showing the pictures of the Crystal Palace in Tombstone was legal as well as some of a camera that I had planned to post, but on that one, I did add the inventor and some of the information, I just haven't posted it yet.

Kid, you know you love it when we are right! :gg

As long as you are not making a profit from the pics of the Crystal Palace it's no problem..I know the owners and when we shoot movies in there, they get paid but all other times where there is no money making it's ok to post them.

Thanks Allie. :ty :ty
As a teacher I insist that my 4th grade students cite the resources they have used in every report or project they produce. (Of course I'm flexible enough with 4th graders that I accept the URL and date accessed for Internet sites. They have way too much trouble doing a complete bibliographic citation. If I required that, I wouldn't get it anywhere near correct or complete anyway. For books and magazines, I have them list most of the information in the proper order though.) By the time they get to high school, they should be doing complete, correct bibliographic citations.

I make a point to access the site and make sure they have not copied word for word.
