I thought I would try my hand at doing a class. I am going to attempt to show how I made some flowers from left over fabric trim. I actually got this idea from Allie Mo, as she made shoe clips for her saloongirl outfit.

Ok first you will need:

1) about 1 yard +/- of some sort of trim. (I used 1 1/2 inch pleated fabric with finished seams)
2) glue gun
3) couple of long sewing pins
4) some sort of clips. (I used a couple of blueish hair clips)
5) 2-3 small (1-2 inch) scraps of matching fabric. (I used some lace)
6) optional- small bits of ruffled or pleated lace Literally the little cut offs)
7) you will also want a pair of needle nose pliars
8) you might choose to use a needle & thread
9) Some other type of glue, that will hold metal to fabric. Hot glue didnt work so well. (back to the drawing board--Going to try E6000)

First I played with the trim to see how much I would need. Just roll it around a finger to see how big you want your flower.

I needed about 18-20 inches worth, but I plan on having a tail on my flower to go around my boot (more on that later)

First put a small blob of hot glue on one end of your trim, & glue on your scrap of ruffled lace (Be careful--- Hot glue seeps thru lace. If you lick your finger slightly & then press down, you wont get burned & the glue doesnt stick to your finger)

This will be the center of your flower.

Next we pinch the center of the flower with our thumb & first finger & start twisting. When you get the flower to the diameter you want, stick your sewing pin thru it, cross wise near the bottom, trying to catch all the layers. (dont worry if you dont!)

You could also sew thru the center to secure the flower with a needle & thread if you want. (this would be best for very small & very large flowers)

Next I took a pair of needle nose pliars & bent the sharp end of the needle back into the flower. The needle will stay in the flower.

Next we smothered the bottom of the flower with hot glue, NOT too much, but enough to pretty much cover the back of it.

Then (careful glue is HOT HOT HOT) place your scrap of fabric (I used lace) on the glue. (again, if you use lace, the glue can & will seep thru & burn & stick. If you lick your finger, just to moisten it. The glue wont stick & it wont be as hot.)

You can now trim up the fabric scrap so it doesnt show around the edges.

Now that the back has had a moment to harden up, take your clip, & put a small blob of glue on it. Stick it to the back of your flower. Be careful how you glue it on, so that it doesnt interfere with the opening & closing of the clip.

You can use a variety of clips, & pin backs to fasten the flowers to your projects. Use your imagination & have fun.

Edited to add: I would like to add, that the hot glue did not hold my clips on very well. You might try some other glue like E6000. The hot glue works great on fabric items, but DOES NOT hold metal objects for long:tap

Now I left tails on my flowers & here is why. (bet you thought I forgot:gg )

I wanted the tail to go all the way around the top of my boots. The end of the tail is then just tucked into the clip, & waaalll-laaa!!! Cute boot decorations. (I could also use one in my hair, & just loop the tail around a bun or loosly around a fancier hair do. )

If ya'll make one (or more) post your pictures here.. I love to see other peoples creations.
