Hey all, (this includes you lurkers) I really really need to work on my loading time with my side by side shotgun. This could be facilitated by me actually practicing *GASP*

SO what I need (& yes I'm willing to pay for this service) is about 10-12 20g practice ((DUMMY)) rounds made from Winchester AA hulls. I need them with NO primers in the primer holes. (I want to fill that part myself) I would be happy to ship the "dead hulls" to you, so that you could make them & then I would pay you & the shipping.

So if you think you can do this for me please:beg PM me or Email me. :ty

I have edited this post: After several suggestions, I want to go with empty weight hulls. Practicing shucking them is second only to me needing to practice loading them in. (I'm a serious fumble fingers)

MOY,

You don't want the weight of normal rounds...it's bad for your extractors (you'll wear them out prematurely) and when you're shucking them out...you want to weight of of empties. You just need someone to crimp them over for you...and use silicone in place of the primers to protect your firing pin.

The extractor only becomes a problem on pumps not side by sides; because the extractors on a side by side lift from underneath not reach and grab/pull.

Yep, I agree with Nellie. I have some "store bought" ones but I can't remember where I got them.

She still needs to normal empty weight for shucking them out. They will fall out too easily if they are normal weight.

:gg Clancy, I am a certifiable wimp! I have a 20g with one of them thick rubber slip on pads. One of these days we will get a 12g SxS but we need a 73 first, & then hubby wants a pair of Rem 1875's & what I wouldnt give for a paitrof the lightening pistols &.....&...&.....:faint

You see my problem here?

I suppose what I really should do is learn how to work the pump, but I'm just not that cordinated. :lalala

Still looking for the 20g practice shells......
I even stepped over to "the other forum" & put a want ad in thier classifeds.

I love my 20g sxs - problem is the shells only come in yellow - makes it hard to match your outfit!

I'll tell ya 2 secrets...#1 - A pump takes less coordination than a SxS to become proficient (I started with a SxS and I'm still trying to get fast with mine) and #2 - With the right shells, a 12 ga can have less kick than as 20 ga. :D :D :D :D And they cost a lot less than a 73!!! :rofl :rofl :rofl

I second Nellie on all counts. The pump is so easy! Much easier than a sxs. But at the Evil Roy school he was saying he is going back to a sxs because of all the stress of wondering if his pump was going to let him down when he most needed it. So he's finding ways of becoming fast with a sxs. Lots of folks are, I'm not one of them :)

12 ga target loads or featherlights can be really light. The tighter you hug your shotgun into your shoulder the less kick no matter what you are shooting.

Nellie, Joe(hubby) has a pump. But its heavy. That is my problem with the 73 too (At least the one Joe wants. 20in octagon barrel. :faint --- I told him I can't shoot the darn thing, we borrowed a buddies) I can handle a round barrel 20in, that has been lightened in other ways as well. (another buddy)

Ok I promise to try working with the pump on practice night.

One of the main reasons it will feel so heavy is that it's probably too long for you...lots of extra weight hanging out there away from your body....the closer the weight is to your body, the more comfortable it will feel. Do any of the ladies you shoot with have short 97's that you could try? The length of the barrel & the stock make a HUGE difference in how it feels to shoot.

For instance...traditional length of pull rules say my stock should be 13"...mine is 11"...the whole gun is only 37" long. Lots more control and less length hanging out there weighing in! :D

I agree with Nellie and Bloomin'!! When we first started CAS Bulls Head bought me a 20 gauge SxS, and oh my GAWD, I absolutely HATED shooting shotgun!! It hurt, left bruises, wouldn't break open, I just hated it. Then one day Gun Shy offered to share her '97 with me and after one stage of shooting it, I told Bulls Head that I wanted one. I got one for Valentine's Day that year!! I love my shotgun. It fits me perfectly. NO RECOIL!!! Heck, all the gas goes out the extraction site and not into your shoulder!
Judge Roy Bean tries to make off with it every time we shoot together. (That reminds me, I'll have to watch him at HOW.) He says it fits his "stubby" little arms better than any shotgun he's shot. The first time we shot with him, which was at Last Stand in 2003, I was so worried he'd convince BHB to sell him my shotgun, that I went over to LaserGuns on Saturday morning and had him engrave my name and logo on the stock!:rofl :rofl

I love my SxS, never tried a pump at all, mainly we cant get them here as they are illegal, but never tried one in the states either. You can also get double and single trigger SxS, i use a double trigger, but again you get so used to it, i dont even know im using to triggers.

I agree with Nellie on the 12g compared to the 20g....When you learn to use them right there is nothing to them. No need for recoil pads, just pull that baby into your shoulder, just make sure it fits you properly. I had to have some of the stock thinned down as it was too think for my hand to get around the wrist area. After i had it changed i had better control of it.

We have only just been able to get featherlites down here, im yet to try them but i use the standard 7 1/2 shot load. But look forward to seeing if there is much difference in them..

Back to the original quest for dummy rounds.....I have friends that make and sell them. They do both the light ones and the ones with shot in them. I believe he packages them 4 rounds to a pack. Here's the email address of Barley Pop Bill (Barley Pop & Company). Please tell him I sent ya and if you like candy coated pecans, ya might ask him to toss in a jar of Mustang Nuts, made by my dear friend Mustang Megs!
