Well I knew it was comming but I have still had a very rude awakening from the postal service this morning.

We ship our wigs in 14x14x14 boxes, and much as Id like to do that smaller, the styles do not allow for it....now to ship a box of such dimensions across the country which weighs less then two pounds by the way will be a hopping $30.50 for priority shipping (It usually costs between 8-11$ depending on zip code). I have not tried the parcel post which would have a postage of $6.80 but I have concerns for the wellfare of the wig after 5-9 days in USPS hands...

I think I will go drink a coke and think...but I am affraid I will very soon be out of the wig shipping business...I for one can not justify charging $30 to ship a practically weightless box.

anyone else irritated with the post office today? I imagine mailing a dress in a box of any great size is going to be painful as well. Sigh....:tap

The postage increase is nuts! The USPS wants to keep our business yet they price us out of existance! Not only am I angry but a bit confused by thier inconsistancy. 60% of my business is through the mail. I don't want to raise my prices...so, I hope my customers understand the increase in the S/H ....with a nice note to explain...What a mess!....but, what are the options? gggrrrrrrr! Fed ex doesn't seem to be able to find me! Not ever! and I have to drive a bit over an hour to do the UPS thing.

BEFORE, Y'all close your doors... go to UPS (http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/index.jsx) establish an account and they will come to you and pick up! NO more lines, long drives and when the driver comes, just say , Hey I know HUGH!:lool

Well ... I for one have had good luck with Fed Ex! We have used DHL before, too, and have had no problems. I primarily use USPS and try to stay away from UPS (long story on that one).

You may be able to use a different dimension box, but I understand why you use the ones you do.

You can always leave the shipping and rates up to the individual buying from you, GG. Let THEM determine what they want to spend and with whom. But PLEASE!!! Don't take the wigs away!!! I am still wanting a couple of more!! Other people probably want to see you continue to sell them, too! .....

I have a great ups delivery guy! I just know there is (transit issues) It is really a issue of what happens BEFORE he gets the box..

Diane thanks for the kind words and encouragement!

I am just flabbergasted by 30$!! It is the size of the box they are charging by how much space your box takes up and less by the weight. Funny though the shipping locally is much less...that same box from my home to Long Beach is just 4.07$ Priority. Where befor it was pretty consistant 8-11$ in the US.

I am considering sane options and seeing what will and wont work for me. We might modify the foam head to something else...I just dont know ( Diane I may need to ask you to be a lab rat for me soon!)

My mom is our stylist as I have mentioned in the past, she not only loves doing these wigs because she gets such a kick out of seeing ladies in them and the wonderful thankyou words...she really appreciates the extra income as well. Since she is the one with the talent and the hairdressing liscence I just offer images for possible styles and stay out of her way! (wink!) Sadly we cant absorb the shipping costs and I just have doubts about someone being all that thrilled with the cross country $shipping!

I also need to adjust my site with a shipping calculator for the shopping cart now as well because there is a LARGE difference depending on how close you are to sending zip code. Which is going to be a pain...because I like being about to do my site but frankly its tedious and if I could afford to pay someone I surely world!

UPS...has smashed every fragile box I have ever sent with them and they fumbled a three day select on me one too many times... they are also not any less expensive.

I have not tried Fed Ex ground...I will check rates...I have never been given to believe they were cheaper...and then I have to test the smash factor, and then there is the whole international issue...youd be surprised but over 1/2 of our wigs head over the pond. I liked being able to use one shipper for everything.

Oh and heres a thought...it was a better option for me to shop unline for fabric and have it shipped instead of dropping $75.00 or more in gas to get to LA for a day...Ummmm that tide may have turned.

uggghhhh our country is such a mess...:tap

I can squeak rather well, so being lab rat is not a problem! Just yell my way!

Contact Shyanne ... she set up and manages my web site, and she is AWESOME!!!!! Then all of your problems will be solved s far as the web goes.

Shipping? Keep in mind you are not in this alone. But I can honestly say, I have the best luck with USPS.

welp... I went to the post office. A 14x14x14 box because of the size is 30.50 to florida priority, this is due I am told by the postal worker to the airlines who are now charging by space taken not weight (ok I am not doubting that info) BUT if I want to send it Express (thats two days garunteed folks) I can send it for 27.50 !!! :tap

Because you know they use transporters for express so as to not over work the airplanes:tap :re :bs

and last week that same box cost 8.90 ..... uh huh! riiiiiiighhhht

Sooooo I opened up a fed-ex ground account, let the expieriments in shipping begin. They prices the same said box at 10.00 and four days transit time.

Greeneyed (oh and the lines today...gotta love how everyone in the country knows the rates are changing and yet the postal workers are not trained on the new rate charts...I think we should pay them more, really, its obviously a problem of not enough training dollars....:tap ) Gypsy

Well, if the USPS doesn't have competitive prices with the other shipping companies, the only thing they have done is encourage people to go elsewhere. Now how smart was that?!
GG, I feel your pain girl, but try Fed-Ex and see how it goes.

We'll keep our fingers crossed that FedEx will solve your shipping problems.
I don't understand the increase. Do the boxes take up MORE space this week than last? Miss Fannie is right. They ARE pricing themselves right out of business!

Thanks all for listening to me rant a little...I shall try not to make a habit of it!

Ida...what really irks me is that I can send a box to the UK for less than I can to Florida... that much be because they done need airplanes for that too. They must be using Lizzies Google maps directions...go to NY, swim across the Atlantic ect.

So we will see if fed-ex can both deliver and deliver intact.
