WOW! Kate. I love the lace you used. What an AWSOME dress.

I'm glad you like the lace - I bought it in France well over a year ago. I bought about 20 metres of it and I remember it cost small fortune - around $10 per metre! (I think I got a bit carried away with that purchase!!) I've had it in a drawer since then waiting for something suitable to use it on.

This dress is almost my perfect size for a shooting outfit!! I absolutely LOVE plaid. I've already got one of my Convention dresses taken care of, what with the riding habit that Diane just made me.....if all goes well, I could have two taken care of!

I'm fascinated how the plaid matches at the seams.

I'm new to sewing, :sewing but isn't that really hard to do?

It looks incredibly beautiful. A work of art!

Kate - and GG too - please don't hold back posting your creations on this site! We all learn so much by seeing the many different ways all the ladies on this board create their Victorian beauties! All of these beauties really help us to get motivated to work on our own :sewing and to look forward to seeing some of these creations somewhere at an event! PLUS....the ladies on this board should have first rights to purchase....right????!!!! :tban :tban

You HAVE to share your creations....it's a rule...isn't it??

I absolutely love seeing the Victorian beauties that everyone creates and shares on this board...plus all of the tips and "in the making" and historical references, and well, everything!!!!!!!!

Kate - beautiful gown! Fannie - I hope you get that one - it'll look fabulous on you!

Thank you all so much! I did enjoy making this one as I love the challenge of matching the plaids (although not always 100% successfully!)

Thank you - matching it is not too easy, but there is a little trick that has so far worked pretty well for me. Cut each bodice peice one by one (for example, do not lay out all your peices at once). I tend to start with the centre front piece. Then go to the side piece making sure that you have the horizontal part of the plaid at exactly the same point at the waist as the first piece. Then take a look at where the pieces end at the top and bottom, and compare it to your first piece. When you are happy with the pattern, you can cut out your first piece. Work your way around the bodice is this way until all pieces are cut out.

One more tip. Only buy woven plaids. Never buy printed plaids as they are never exactly on grain.

Well - I've finished all the alterations, so it will be shipped tomorrow. I so hope Fannie is happy with it when it reaches her - I hate this part!!!

By the way - I'm OVER THE MOON that Fannie won it!!

I must be mad because while I was waiting for measurements I've started my next gown (you'd think I'd take a rest wouldn't you?) However, I'm so excited about the next one (early bustle, black, bronze, and LOTS of embroidery). This next one is completely down to Diane at Neatshire Creations - she sent me the image a while ago, I couldn't remember WHERE I got it from, sent it back to Diane saying this will be my next gown (how stupid did I feel???) then realised she had sent it to me in the first place!! Diane being the complete lady she is, insisted that I make it myself - how nice is she?? One day I'll return the favour!! Maybe I can pick up a little gift for her in France while I'm there over the next two weeks - some nice french lace maybe?

Lady Leigh
04-29-2007, 12:59 PM

... This dress will be going to the Convention....that makes two down, at least 5 to go.Dearest Fannie,

I admire your creativity and ambition. I just hope you don't burn yourself out on :sewing with all of the pressure you put on yourself to wear all new dresses to the Convention. Maybe, you could sneak in one or two "oldies but goodies" like Bill's favorite dress and your B-Western outfit.

We will still love you!

Sincerely,

Allie Mo, the purple dress I'm working on now will be going to Convention, so that's #3 and then the outfit for HOW on Friday night will be going, that's #4. I'm hoping to make either a dinner bodice or evening bodice for the purple dress, so that's #5. The ballgown I have planned will be #6 and I still have to decide what will be #7.....and then of course I'll have a couple spare....probably the polka dot dress I'm working on now. Actually, I'm started waaaaay early this year....no problem.:sewing :sewing

Dear Fannie and Kate: One of my friends has a 2-1/2 year old who has pronounced Fannie "pitty Mommy, pitty dady" which translates into Pretty, Mommy, pretty lady. She then continued - "want one" which translates into Mommy, make me a red plaid dress with lace trim too. Mommy, who is a professional costumer (who is also a redhead with two redheaded daughters), has said, "Oh Dear another century to play with."

Phew!!! Just got back from France early hours this morning, and I've been on tenterhooks for the last two weeks to see if Fannie received the gown, and if she is happy! I'm so relieved that it is ok! I must admit I was terrifed to take it in too much at the back in case I took it in too much (Fannie - I'll pm you seperately re this).

Now I can go back to bed for a couple more hours!!
