Hello,
I would love to see some plates or old photos of cotton or calico costumes that would be easy to wash and appropriate to shoot in. (I still have several print fabrics that I can't decide what to do with.)
I'd really like to see styles without bustles or hoops. I imagine that the 1890s have the obvious choices.
Any ideas?
:ty
PS Oops maybe I should have posted this in the Sew Area... Fannie, feel free to move it.

GG Sweetie -
Our picture size is limited on the alley -- I've had my photos rejected until I made them smaller. Maybe Fannie and Kid are allowed a larger size? You need to check with them. Sorry that yours can't be posted. I hope to see yours when I get back to a family computer again (borrowing the Reno Elks Lodge pc on a timer -- and they're threatening to keep me here if I type much longer).

Where's the crybaby smilie? Why-because plaid #1 is too beautiful and I covet it! I mean look at it, it's got the pointy-thingies going on at the hem and the front drapes off buttons? There's little tab-like things with buttons on cuffed sleeves and is that a mock-vest, with more buttons and what do you suppose is under the vest?
And then the back view - more buttons - and is that a little checked petticoat or underskirt and are you positive there's no bustle there? How in the world can you make that without the exact pattern.
But wait, If anyone can do it Ms Neatshire can! will you share you methods please! Oh, this dress is too fabulous!

You're to cute, Dixie!!
Keep in mind it will be awhile before I can get this gown made as I have 2 others due to customers in May and another due to one in June. But yes, "If" I find the right plaid, I'll get this one made (as I absolutely LOVE it), and I'll share as I go!

Allie Mo, here are some more 1890s outfits for you. I think that any of these would be great in a cotton fabric. Hunting, shooting and croquet outfits would be perfect for wearing to a CAS match as the hem is a bit shorter and wouldn't be in your way while running on a stage.

Lovely 1890s, ladies. THANKS! I love them, but would look like a LINEBACKER in them.

:ty ladies for the wonderful plates. I love the grey scallop costume, oh and that wonderful plaid with the tiered skirt.
What I am really looking for is tiny calico prints like the "common folk" (I think) wore. You don't see many in fashion plates. Maybe, because they weren't haute couture.
This plate is something like I was thinking. However, you see the prints are larger than the tiny print calicoes I am talking about.
The dress on the right could work, with a fabric peplum instead of lace at the holster level.

Hey,
I decided to get off my ... (oh not really) and find some extant calicoes.
Here's a 1900 calico from http://www.woodlandfarmsantiques.com/UploadPagesJAN_07/LadiesJAN_07/VicEd/vertical/21658/index.html
Check out this Website. The prices for damaged goods in the "Graveyard" are phenomenal! However, they are all sold.
BTW I have two patterns that might work for this. One is an apron and the other is a suspender skirt.

Could this be a print of golf tees? :lool

Having extra fullness at the sleeve cap helps when shooting. Too much fullness gets in the way.
Here is a sweet calico dress...

:ty Jady!
I like the bodice.
From the way the hem is pulled off the floor in back, it doesn't look like a bustle dress to me. Any comments?
Okay, I have a question. Did anyone notice how deep the hem is? Were hems commonly that deep, or did it vary? It sure looks like a waste of fabric.

Good eye, Allie Mo. You know, I didn't notice that about the back hem, but I think you're right. Not long enough to take a bustle...
It is a very simple dress, but lovely. I'm finding it hard to date... Is it from the late 80's or very early 90's, with the start of a poof on the sleeve cap, and slightly leg-o-mutton sleeves? Or possibly from the early 1900's, after the end of the heyday of gigantic sleeves...? I imagine it could even be much earlier... the bodice looks like TV's French Bodice (can't off hand remember what that dates to...)
I can't tell... Help anyone??
