They may not be our era, but don't think that someone would not have worn those in the 1880s or 1890s. They loved "vintage" as much as we do, I'm sure. Can't you just see those in someone's hair at a ball. A wonderful updo with those as decoration.....ohhhhh droooool!!! In hairstyles like these perhaps:

Miss Gypsy,
The very first fashion plate you posted is my inspiration for Mule Camp 2008.
I love the gown on the left. Now all I have to do is find a seamstress willing to take it on. I think I have found one close to home. I meet with her next weekend.
I will modify the neckline and the sleeves, being a larger and more mature...ahem..woman..but I just adore that gown!
Do you think that the hoop underneath is an elliptical rather than a "bell" shape?

03-04-2007, 08:03 PM
oh thank you Miss Joy! I can't sew a lick, but I am learning so much here at the Alley when I have time to visit a spell.
I have an appointment with a seamstress here next weekend, so keep your fingers crossed!
Mule Camp is the 24th thru the 27th of May. The dinner/dance will be Saturday night. Catered by Outback Steak House....yum...
Please let me know if you are coming up for a visit. Would love to meet you and show you around. This is my home club, so I'll be working the match.
BUt I'll take the time to meet and greet any and all Alley members that come down if you let me know you're headed our way!

Thanks Miz Pitty, I replied to your other thread. Dear Hubby wants to know, will there be a good amount of vendors?
Miz Pitty
03-04-2007, 08:15 PM
Miss Joy,
I will check for you, but Mule Camp usually has a good amount of vendors. Tonto Rim will be there, along with my favorite leather maker, Purdy Gear.
Buffalo's Western Wear, and I think Cowtown Katy will be back as well.
THere will also be a lady that makes corsets, her name escapes me at the moment. They are under the bust though, not over. At least they were last year.
Anything in particular hubby is looking for? I can check with the vendor coordinator and find out...

It might help if I could count! Sorry Bloomin! The gown is actually on the first page, and is the third picture!
I will try to make it as close to the picture as I can ... there may be some small deviations, but not many. I have a really pretty cream brocade downstairs that is haunting me at night when I lie awake wondering what I should start next ... I have special orders, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about a gown to add to the list!! I'm about to start working on two gowns at the same time! Fannie Dear, I found a new fabric store :tban :gg Its all home dec fabrics & rugs. Guaranteed Lowest prices around!
The store is about the size of a small grocery store, & has rows & rows & rows of luscious silks & sheers, & stripes, & paisely's, & oh my......
Look what I found!! Reminded me of that Worth Gown you promised you were gonna make. Its a velvet flocked Jacquard, the white Jacquard is about the weight & feel of a good home dec taftea. The velvet is soft, not stiff. It is going for $9.99/yard (60" wide) & they have a big bolt of it. We might even be able to talk them down if you took the bolt (I would say at least 10-15 yards on the bolt) Hey I've gotten 10% off if I could take the whole bolt! You either need to come visit down here, like you've been sayin you were gonna do, or let me buy & ship this to you, if you want it for the Worth gown.
I can also buy an 1/8 of a yard sample & send it up.
The large solid swirls were just a little bigger than a quarter, so the whole thing was very proportionate (Did that make sense?? --The black/white dot fabric below it was HUGE!! The dots were fist sized if that helps any)
The pic was take with my cell phone, so the quality isnt the greatest, sorry!

WOW Fleur, that red velvet dress on ebay is one stunning gown. Ok, who's gonna recreate that one???:gg
SV, that violet skirt is calling your name, honey. It is soooooo gorgeous! Yup, you really do need to find some violet print fabric.....maybe do a combination of the print with a purple or lavender solid contrast?? It would look wonderful on you.

My guess would be silk taffeta overlayed with silk satin?
And yes I miss this thread too, I should really look for things to add....Thank you BBB!!!

my guess is that it's pure silk due to the age of the dress. It's an original dress that I found online somewhere and have had in my drool folder.....

That dress just sold on ebay last week for $455. They described it as silver-grey silk.

That is spectacular. I'm not sure what is happening with the fancies on the bodice; but, it is gorgeous.
