Yikes..... I have been slaving away working on my cancan outfit and I just weighed my skirt at it is 8 1/2 pounds!!!!!:18 I made my own ruffles using chiffon thinking it would be lighter weight, hate to think what it would have weighed if I used the satin I was first going to use.
I think Tom Foolery will have to wheel me into the convention or I'm going to need suspenders. I will be tired before I get to the elevator. If you see a pooped out CanCan girl it will be me.
Gotta go.... Still have lots to do on the outfit.:go :sewing

8 1/2 pounds! I thought by the topic title I would be offering Congratulations for the new little one -- wasn't expecting it to be made of cloth ;)
I haven't dared to weigh my ballgown skirt -- maybe hubby can rent a wheelbarrow...

Hey Garnet Rose,
My outfit only has ruffles on the outside. It was already so heavy:18 that I decided it was done.
See you there!

Allie Mo, My cancan dress doesn't have any ruffles yet. Let's just say that I discovered the full capacity of my ruffler... took awhile to pull the mess back apart :18
I switched to sewing on the ballgown bodice I drafted and thought it was looking pretty good on the dressform when hubby came home and said, "That's kinda high necked, isn't it? I was hoping those belles would be a worse influence on you."
Oh, speaking of bad influences, I think you really need to buy that killer masquerade dress you were admiring. :noe

Hey Garnet Rose,
Lalalalalala...I don't hear you! ;)
But Allie Mo, you can see me ;) It seems a shame to take the pumpkin coach all the way to Vegas and miss the ball...
Further justifications available on demand! :noe

Hey Sarah B and others,
I just realized when I posted my first reply, I addressed it to Garnet Rose and didn't include you.:re Oh well, that turned into a fun little conversation.
I wouldn't mind loosing a few pounds from wearing that weight for an evening. (Just got back from my annual physical. The scale was not my friend. :18 I hope my clothes still fit.)
I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at Vegas! I am considering going to the ball. However, I don't have a costume. I may wear all green and a red wig. Any ideas who I could say I am?
Regards,
Allie Mo

What color green? Could be a denizen of the Emerald Isle or money or the moon (green cheese) ...

Hi Garnet Rose,
Here is a scan of the fabric. It's green faille with black lace. BTW, I'm in. I called SASS and paid for the Ball! I'm so glad I did.
I'm usually a PITB about my clothes, says hubbie. It's too late to worry now.
Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks,
Allie Mo

Allie Mo, What a gorgeous color! Okay, that hue with red hair... Hummingbird leaps to mind! Are you taking the mask making class at the convention? Make a mask to coordinate and you're there!

Just a :18 thought---- Hang satin christmas tree ornaments all over your dress, and put a star on your head and go as a christmas tree.:kbutt :ruff
Just kidding, buttttttttt, it might look pretty good and wouldn't be very hard to do.

Hey Tatted Lady,
Ixnay on the mascriss reetay. (I knew you were kidding, right?)
I bought a mask today. (I couldn't make the Mask Class because it's in the morning) It has feathers that match my dress. It looks like a butterfly.
I will not be entering the costume contest, so I don't need a really good story. I will just be an Irish Butterfly.

Hi Cat,
Several of us are wearing can can dresses to the saloon dance. If you wore yours to the ball, you'd be unique in your costume choice.

So.... do any of this "weight concern" have anything to do with trying to keep a "skirt that won't stay down" down ????
.....startin' ta sound like a contradicament to me .........

CatFableux, You might try taking a look at the Masquerade Info thread Fannie started to get some ideas for what to wear to the ball.
I had already ordered my fabric before I saw a photo of Fannie's Vain Peacock, so I think I shall be "Peacock in a Different Vein" ;)

Mo, if you sign up for our mask class, then you can have a masquerade outfit with that dress and wig....let's see, you could be Holly, or "Christmas Spirit" or a Victorian Elf.....many possibilities.

Hi Fannie,
I am in meetings every morning and all of your classes were in the morning. So, I bought a mask at a local party supply store. It's okay looking. It looks somewhat like a butterfly. It is covered in feathers. I'm going to glue some more stuff on it. I just don't like red-rimmed eyes. They are circled by red sequins.:18
Thanks anyway,
Allie Mo
