Many ostrich feathers are pretty puney now a days..
the older ones are soooo fluffy.. WHY- they were layered!!!
I decided to try to do what they did...you can do it with 2 or more feathers..
I put 2 together under my machine.. I put the zig zag stich on as would as it would go and guided them thru!! here is 2 green feathers with white thread as a demo!!
You can arch the plume by running a thread inside the stiches on the indide of the feather attaching quick whipstich at the top and pulling taught!!

you can also strip one side of the spines with a paring knife so they lay VERY flat.... BUT THIS IS HARD

I'll have to give your way a try. Don't the feather barbs get sewn together when you zigzag?

No they don't!! my machine just popped in and out!! no crushing!! Go med fast and adjust the length of the stitch
hmm i don't know lol!!

See, I didn't know you could use a sewing machine and not get it all scrunched up.. you know, flippity and floopity under the thread. COOL, mighty Cool!
