This thread is for tips on storing those special costume items that are only worn occasionally: hats, wigs, bustles/hoops, gowns, velvet items, special shoes, etc. etc.

I found some wonderful hat boxes at "Family Dollar". They were stacked inside each other and matched the sky blue color I have in the guest bedroom. I packed the inside of the hats with tissue, took a photo and hung it from the closing string, and stacked them in a corner of the bedroom. They look charming and will be great for travel! They were between $4 and $12.

I place a un-used dryer sheet inside the hat box near the hat (not touching) it keeps them fresh!!! change after a few wearings!!

My closet is so packed! I Have a shed where I keep my fabric. I hung a clothes rod in the shed. I photograph my gowns, put a giant plastic bag over them and store them in the shed. I keep a data base of the gown photos on my computer .

I have really high ceilings and a lot of space over my kitchen cabinets. I keep my hat boxes on them. I'm planning on doing an inventory so I know which hat is in which box. Some day.

Now that I've recovered my senses after laughing until I cried, thank you very much Lazy K - maybe I can be helpful.

I attend mounted shooting for three days & two nights. Instead of a hotel or travel trailer, etc, I have a horse trailer with "living quarters". That's in quotes because I have a six x seven foot area for all my living. Using 2" wide velcro, I attached baker's racks to the metal walls on the inside of my trailer and hung a shower curtain pole in between the racks for my things. Voila, my open closet!

Everything I need from hair pieces, jewelry, etc. are in baggies. The baggies get hole punched to hang from the dress hanger and my hats are (depending on delicacy) either in hat boxes or plastic bags also attached to the dress hanger.:kiss :kiss :kiss

SUPER IDEA, Miss Dixie! Great use for the trailer's dressing room!

Dear Lioness,

At first my hubby thought I'd lost my mind with the velcro use - but my racks are as sturdy and immovable as rivets! :lool :lool :lool

Bloomin' I have a floral print in those boxes from Family Dollar, they are beautiful, inexpensive and very useful. I love mine!

Thanks for the other tips Lazy K and Dixie and Lady Fleur!
