At this point you can either blanket stitch by hand with the same colour thread or use a contrast thread. I have used black in this sample so that you can see it.
I use my machine blanket stitich. as you can see it is very simple to do. If you wanted to you can layer the appliques over each other using the same principle.

Great photo examples... I think we have the same machine! LOL!! I love mine.
I think we call the vilofix ...a pellon product here, not the typical pellon but made under that name. Something like two sided interfaceing but thats not exactly it either....ohhh what is the name of it? Its used in maching applique quilting all the time too...I bet Nellie's Mom remembers... I have sudafed mush for brains today.

I sent my mom an e-mail asking here what it is cuz she uses it all the time for her quilting. I thought I had some here at the house, but I can't seem to find it.

GG,
The name you are looking for is Wonder Under. I've used it many, many times.

Thank you! Thats the stuff! I even have some squirrled away around here somewhere too but have not used it in some time! Great stuff...just give the fabric a few minutes to cool before sewing... I got all over excited to finish something once and sewed RIGHT after ironing and the needle went down- stuch-pulled and came up all junked up....that what I get for enthusiasm!:go
Going to play with the button hole stitch on my machine and see how close I can get the stitches.

GG, I've seen it sold as Wonder Under and also as Thermo Web Heat Bond. I have some of the latter and know just what I'll be doing with it.:tban :tban :chick :chick

Back in the olden days :lool I think it was called "Stitch Witchery." I love that name. I just Googled it and it's still being sold under that brand. Here's a blurb on it from http://capg.zoovy.com/product/9320
Stitch Witchery Fusible Web (for bonding)
This product is an excellent way to bond fabric to fabric, fabric to paper, wood, cardboard and other related materials. It is a ultra thin 100%25 polyamide webbing that can be cut to any shape you desire. You then place it over the item you want to cover. Then place your fabric over the web, heat with an iron and it fuses permanently.
The web comes 20 inches by 1 yard. It is very thin and will bond any fabric using an electric iron in about 12 seconds. It is easy to cut and easy to fuse.
Hey Clancy,
You do make it look easy. :ty for taking the time to post :ss.

Well, for some reason I didn't see there was a page 2 when I made my last post.....seems as if we all found out about the same time. :rofl

Mo I have used both, the stitch witchery is a bit lighter weight adhesive. The wonder under is rather akin to armored fabric! LOL a nice stiff finish after it is ironed. Both I think would work for this!
Fannie...LOL!!

Sorry girls i spelt it wrong. This is it
VLIESOFIX
Vleisofix is a double sided adhesive web for applique work, mending, reinforcing, craft work and sewing.
It can be used on all fabrics and on leather at low temperatures.
If ironed with light pressure, it will partly melt and hold an applique in place to check positioning.
If the applique is in the wrong place it will peel off easily to be repositioned elsewhere and will still bond permanently with more heat and pressure.
Use a woollen setting and a DRY iron
The bond is washable & dry-cleanable.
Available in rolls 30cm. x 15m. & 30cm. x 30m.
Glad you all found it worth while, it really is simple and the rest is up to your imagination

Hello,
I think I'm beginning to get the idea. Stitch Witchery would not be as good as this other stuff. The stuff Clancy describes would make it much easier to cut. SW is just for fusing and can't be moved.
Thanks Clancy, for all of the detail.

Mo,
I agree, I wouldn't use SW for applique unless you have it exactly where you want it. Another problem I've run into with SW is if it isn't entirely covered by the fabric, you can end up with some very rough edges and it's hard to get rid of.
Great stuff for emergency hemming though!!!

and wonder under will allow you to move it if you do like Clancy listed and iron it very quickly/gently....if its not exactly right you can peel it up and move it.

This stuff is almost like grease proof paper, the stuff you put on your cookie trays. It is not like and interfacing texture.
