Okay, we have been obsessing over striped dresses for quite some time now, so I decided it was time to obsess over another of my favorite patterns.......plaid!! I just love plaid. I actually just sold a plaid ballgown on Ebay. Here are a few pictures to get us started in our next drooling session.

Fannie you're BAD ;)
Plaids are so time consuming, all that matching. Can you imagine making that dress with the tiny pleats. Pressing it must have been a nightmare.
Gee, I just take time from looking and more pictures show up. I love your dress, Lady Dallas.
I think I admired that blue plaid of Alli's on another post.

Thanks gals...I have some nice plaid cotton for my next one, it's a brown red and cream color combo..a summer dress fabric. The one I have with the velvet trim and brown plaid is a light flannel cotton for fall and cooler weather. I am waiting for inspiration to come..the above pages before are wonderfully helpfull, I am thinking of mixing and matching some solid with the next plaid dress.
I am actually trying to finish a dress I started in January when Mom died, my time has been very compromised since then...it is a TV 326 herimone out of a reproduction 1880 brown cotton with the cutest cream wheat sheaves pattern on it. I just need to attach the waistband, decide on some trim and I already have the bodice cut out and ready to flatline.

As you may be thinking of 1870s for the convention, here is one that I think has not been posted. It's a US design too.
The second one is from 1876.
The third one is French from 1875. The trim could be plaid.
If you are thinking of using one of the $$$$$ wool state tartans, these might be a good choice as they only use it as trim.

I've been buying my hat boxes at Ross Dept Store. I'm not sure if you have one in your parts. They have hat boxes for $8-$10, depending on the size. Sometimes I can put more than one hat in the box depending on the size and I keep them covered in tissue paper

Victoria Rose - Your proposed California dress is gorgeous - what do you have in mind? :fb
Well I found a dress to do in plaid. The colors are pretty close to California Tartan. I would accent it with the state flower, yellow poppies, and maybe have a state seal placed on the breast of the dress. I also am thinking quail, the state bird perched in a hat among some yellow poppies.

Lovely dress Lauren. Yes I have a Ross near us here, I was looking for bulk and better prices. I gave so many away with hats I made for ladies that I came up short, so it's time to restock. January restocking is soooo much fun!
