I forgot, to tell you to sew around the sides and bottom of the "bag" part, to the depthwanted for the pocket.

Then serge, or overcast or bind with a Hong Kong finish.......................

Thanks Tatted Lady. I knew this would be helpful. I've done hundreds of these welt pockets and your way is easier than my way. :ty :ty :ty Can't wait to try it.

Thanks everyone!!!:kiss

Now I want to see some of your practice samples. And please practice first on some scrap fabric.

I used different colors for each part to show the construction better.
But if you use the fashion fabric for everything, then you can omit the part where I sewed the "Gold" color onto the white lining material.
Just make sure to use iron on interfacing on the back side of each piece before making the "window".

I get a interfacing by the bolt for about $12, when JoAnn's has it on sale for 4 yds for $.99.
I save all the scraps when making other garments. These are the perfect size for welts. Boy am I cheap or what!!!!

I took pics of making double welts too. Will get them together soon.

Also finished putting in a welt pocket on a size 48 stiff canvas SASS pants.

What a job!!!!!!

Not the welt,,,, But manuvering those pants to where I wanted and needed them in and around the machine.

Took pics of it too. Will post on another thread titled, " Roger's SASS Pants."

If anything isn't clear or have any suggestions to make it even easier.
Please post, because we all like easier.

Dru, we want to see pics of those watch pockets.

Ok TL, I will do my pockets as soon as I finish this corset here in a day or two. I have always wanted more pockets, they are very handy and I need them for my little ladies watches cause I direct all day in Tombstone and must know the time. The show must go on!:sewing

:ty Very grateful for the step by step pix and use of contrasting colors!

Will be practicing this week.

Using the fancy stitching is an INSPIRED, couture touch.

Thankyou Tatt, that was great, i always err at making something with them in, for fear of ruining the fabric. Your instructions are great.:tban

After you get comfortable with the Welt.

Then...... try sewing little "side" pockets on the lining, below the "gold" fabric.
Just top stitch "on"....... like a regular shirt pocket.

These can be the size of a credit card, lipstick, or whatever. And sewn down the middle to make two side by side!

They can be the same width and depth of the welt pocket and can be sewn on when you sew the "bag" together. Just hem the top edge and place between the two "bag" layers and sew around as usual.

You can have one on each side too!!!

You can take the pocket "bag" apart of a "store bought garment and sew on "inner pockets" and sew the bag back together.

Hey,,,,,I want to see some sample pics ya'll have done!!!!!:tap

I fianally decided to give your welt pocket instructions a try. I ended up doing them the same old way I always do because the vest I am working on has stripes, I wanted to match the stripes on the welt to the stripes on the vest and the pockets on on a slant. I gave myself a headache trying to figure out how to do this using your method. But I know it can be done! Any tips and tricks for these problems?:help

LK,
Will try on some striped fabric and on the slant and see what I can come up with.
