with finding a recipie.

In classic Gypsy form, I have missplaced a recipie for a sweet potatos (yams actually but you get the idea)

It was not overly sweet (no marshmellows) it had chopped nuts on top ( it may have been pecans but I used walnuts)

seems like it was three layers...a mashed sweet potato layer, something on top of that and the chopped nuts to top it. Bake. eat.

SIGH...it was probably the best sweet potato recipie I have ever had ( and I LIKE yams!) and I was hoping to make it for Thanksgiving this year.

If anyone has had, knows of something similar to this I would be so happy to hear about it!

Many many thanks

Thanks Garnet! those look good but the one I am thinking of has little or no sugar, syurp ect added...very much in a savory catagory.

I will keep thinking/ looking I just wish I could remember where I got the recipe in the first place (oh and appoligies for spelling that wrong several times above! LOL!)

Try this: Oil a suitable-size baking dish (I love sweet potatoes, so I'm thinking 9"x13", but your mileage may vary). Slice sweet potatoes (or yams) and Granny Smith apples thin, and put them in the dish in layers, drizzling each layer with a little melted butter or margarine into which you've mixed 1/2 to 1 tsp of thyme, 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, and black pepper to taste. Top with finely-chopped pecans and a last drizzle of the melted butter mixture.

Bake at 350 degrees uncovered until the taters and apples are soft. I'm not certain of the time; I kind of riff on this whenever I make it, and never have written the process down. I'm guessing 30-45 minutes? If you make this, let me know how long it took. :rofl
