I've seen a number of pictures where ya'll have put a hat on with a wig...big wigs. How do you get all that hair into the hat? How does the hat stay on? (I'm not seeing any little teeny tiny bands of elastic on the photos.)
Any input here is appreciated!

Hatpins should do it.

Depends on the hat vs. hairstyle some hairstyles don't go well with hats..
BUT i agree with hat pins or ribbons tied under the hair or chin depending on style!!

Well this may be too simple, but what's wrong with a bigger hat?:waiting

Kid, a lot of the ladies' styles of our time period called for hats that sat on the head rather than fitting down over the crown of the head like a modern hat. Bonnets would be tied on with ribbons under the chin; hats would be held on with hat pins, several of them at right angles to each other, through the hat and the hair underneath. Which meant that one's hair had to be securely arranged, both for its own sake and to give one's hat an anchor!

Long ago, before the Great Alley Crash of Aught-Somethin', one of the Belles posted a diagram for How to Pin a Hat. I don't suppose anyone made a copy?

So a Male interpretation would be: "They served no useful purpose at all except for decoration and to accent the outfit"! :lool

Yes because men just hate all the work we put into looking appealing....:lalala :gg :lalala :gg

Wigs a re pretty secure to the head once you get used to wearing them ( something I am still working on) Then you just pin the hat to the wig ...sit it on your head where you want it run a pin through the hat and wig (missing your scalp!) and there you go! Hats actually stay on really really well with a wig and are more comfortable too ( well for me it seems that way!)

I am growing my hair back out (progress in about two years!) but I think I am starting to be a wig girl! Because its the only way I can get my hats to not fall off when I fire my shotgun!!!:rofl :rofl :rofl
