Featherblu Slim is one of the regulars at Gunpowder Creek and was a volunteer at the Bust Out this year. The other day he got on one of his horses and was promptly bucked off and thought he broke a rib. The X-ray showed no broken rib but instead he has a tumor on his lung. His wife, Pistol Pointin' Pearl says the doc seemed unconcerned but they are sending him for further tests. Please pray for our good friend and cowboy that this tumor disappears and is benign!!:tban :tban

Please tell Featherblu Slim that I'm wishing him well. I guess it was good karma that he got bucked, so they could find the tumor.
Best wishes for a good prognosis.

Prayers on the way for you both.
For those of you who have never had the great pleasure of meeting either Slim or Pearl, you have missed a real treat. They are two very special people and a Cowboy and Cowgirl in the truest sense.

Slim, sugar, we have you on the prayer list. But, I must admit, I'm grateful that something got you to the doctor in order to find this tumor. The Lord works in mysterious ways. We love you, sugar.

As the old saying goes - LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Had the PET scan last Friday, lung Doc got the results Monday. They can't see anything that looks malignant, but the scan is only about 90% accurate they say. So far that's good news. The problem is that the thing has grown some and probably should come out - OK! Get an appointment with a surgeon, he checks everything and says - yup, probably should come out - BUT .... it's located in the center of my right lung and the only way to remove it is to take out a third of my right lung. My other option is to have a needle biopsy and if it confirms the PET scan, CT scan, etc. then we just keep an eye on it without removing it. Having the biopsy next Tuesday and we'll see what happens. Thanks, again for all the thoughts and prayers. Slim -----

Hugh,
Think of it this way. When my Brother in law quit smoking, he put on a not so little weight. He figured he would now have enough time to loose said weight.

I will ask that everyone continue to pray for Slim. Here is the post his lovely wife has on GPC's prayer thread:
Thank you all, for all the thoughts and prayers. Slim and I feel them at every moment.
Slim went in for the biopsy today, and things did not go as we'd hoped. In efforts to get a piece of this tumor, Slim's lung collapsed. Staff in the room scrambled to get the right folks in the room to get him intubated. He's was in quite a lot of pain, as he was under only a local anesthetic when they put the chest tube in. Even though they could not complete the biopsy, the radiologist discovered a second smaller tumor, that had not yet been seen in any of the scans. He was also able to determine that the tumor was not a "granuloma" as they first thought, but didn't say what it might be instead. At any rate, when the doctors conferred, the decision was made to remove the top lobe of the right lung in order to remove the tumors. The surgery is scheduled for this Friday, but I have no more details than this right now.
Slim is in remarkably good spirits, joking with all the nurses, as you'd expect. He's most worried about how many targets he'll miss as he's trying to learn to shoot his shotgun from the hip!
You all are a wonderful family, and I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers. Please keep sending Slim your positive thoughts and he'll get through this with flying colors! (Literally, if Barrelhead gets a chance with him in the recovery room!) I love you all!

Fannie,
Thank you so much for posting the update for me. (I meant to post last night, but my need for sleep made me wait until this morning!)
Slim's strength and faith makes me proud. He knows that the only control he has in this thing is to keep positive thoughts and to stay at peace with what-ever the outcome may be. I'm taking his laptop to the hospital this morning, so he can "feel the love" first-hand from all of you, our cowboy family, while reading your well-wishes to him.
I don't have words to adequately express my gratitude to all of you for all the prayers going up for Slim and our family, but I want you all to know that it means so much to us. Thank you with all my heart.
Love, Pearl

Slim,
We are all here praying for you and a speedy recovery. When we spoke last Saturday at The Grove you wound up cheering me up. Your strength in spirit and the strength of your faith are to be admired and emulated. Please know that I am here for you and Pearl in anyway you may need.
Oh yeah, and shooting your shotgun from the hip will look so cool.
Pearl, please let me know if there's anything you need.
Love ya both,
Annie

Slim is having his surgery this morning, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Slim and Pearl, we are praying for the Lord to guide the surgeon's hand and for God's healing power to bring you a speedy recovery.
Oh yeah, and also that Slim won't be disappointed when he wakes up in recovery and sees that Barrel Head played Picture Pages on his body. :rofl
Pearl, if you need anything, please call. Love to you both.:kiss

First of all Slim is doing fine and is in ICU. The case was delayed until this afternoon so that is why it's taking so long to report to you all. But Barrel Head said he is doing great!! He'll probably be out of ICU tomorrow and may be in the hospital for a week. Poor guy!!! He was really counting on going to Gunpowder Creek next Saturday. We'll need lots of prayers for that one gang.
The pathology report is not expected back for a few days so more prayers in that area too.
Oh, and one more thing. Barrel Head said he was so busy he never got a chance to "decorate" Slim. Hope he's not too disappointed!!:rofl :rofl

WE'RE HOME!!!
We got the pathology report Tuesday, and the tumor was BENIGN!!!
I got to bring Slim home last Thursday evening. I was both thrilled and scared to death all at the same time. My "nursing" skills aren't up to what he got at the hospital. Poor guy, I'll probably drive him crazy fussing over him. He's managing the pain well, and is already trying to wean himself off of some of the pain meds. His breathing will have to continue to be carefully watched as he has lost so much lung function capacity from smoking for 40+ years and from the loss of a lobe of his right lung. He's more worried about how he's going to shoot a shotgun!
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart, for all the well wishes, cards, phone calls, and especially for all the prayers sent up in behalf of Slim and our family. The prayers, along with the friendship and support of our cowboy family, have helped keep our spirits up, and our faith strong. We are so proud to be a part of such a special family.
Our love to you all,
Pearl, Slim and Newt
(Special thanks and gratitude to Catawba Kate and Barrel Head for being there with us, day after day, keeping watch over Slim, and making sure I was hanging in there. I don't know what we'd have done without you both. Your friendship is beyond measure!)

Hey Pearl,
That's wonderful news. Know that our prayers are still with Slim, Newt and you.
Tell Slim we all said Howdy and that I still think shooting from the hip is cool. Possibly a little dangerous (at least for me), but cool.
Take care of Slim and also take care of youself.
Hope to see you both real soon.
Love ya guys,
Annie

Worrying about shooting his shotgun! Heck he just made it through one difficult personal crisis, and did so with the best of outcomes. Give it time Slim, you will be back to true competitor form in no time at all!
But I think just as a extra measure , I will keep you my prayers!
