View Full Version : Spittin' Tacks Mad at Wrangler.....

He came home today with his buddies...WOUNDED! They were setting up antelope blinds in Cheyenne (actually across the road from Hell On Wheels gun range). Well they were pounding t-post into the ground to attach the blinds wall to and he threw the t-post pounder to high in the air that it came off the t-post and came down on his forhead! Left a nice gapping wound, very deep. This happened this afternoon, they stopped the bleeding, washed it with clean cold water (since all their ice had melted) and tied a piece of T-shirt over it around his head. (He looked like one of the drummers from the civil war who had been wounded and they wrapped it and they kept on going!) And they did keep on going.....they didn't get home until 10:30 this evening.
Took the bandage off and soaked it with peroxide, and he refused to go and get stitches. This thing is like 2-2 1/2 inches long and over a 1/4 inch deep!!! And he thinks some little bandages are going to hold it together!!:faint
Well we fought for over an hour & I lost....he took off his pants and went to bed!!!! So sh*&%#!!!!! What should I watch for if this thing is not healing correctly???? He says no blurred vision, no fuzziness, not sleepy. JUST BIG GAPPING HOLE! MEN!

Ah men, can't live with em or without em sometimes......:faint
Neosporin ointment is easiest if you can get him to use it. If you are into herbal treatments and he will keep it bandaged comfrey leaf is an exellent wound and bruise healer, you just have to make a poltice out of it and apply and bandage. Gaping wounds tend to heal pretty quickly with that.
If he is not hurting enough to worry HIM then try to not let it worry you.
Sometimes a guy just has to do what he thinks is enough, even though it may rip your heart out to watch!:bhd :cry
Once my hubby had an accident in the snow and ice with a rather large tire, which bounced and hit him in the face, breaking all his front teeth! I was horrified, he looked like a werewolf as he had a full beard and mustache at the time. I told him he had better get it fixed IMMEDIATELY as I just could not face kissing THAT for the rest of our lives! We were poor then, but somehow we found the $$$ to get all his teeth fixed, and now he's glad I made him do that. He still has his smile and his pearly whites!

Aspen Filly,
Just keep it clean and it will just be a big scar :faint
The stitches would close it up BUT if it is above the hairline it could cause a bald spot ( bald is beautiful in my book :lool )

Mouser,
At least he just wounded something he doesnt seem to use that often (you can tell him I said that), and it is Wrangler, so watching for unusual behavior is kind of pointless....

It could have been much worse, he could have had luck like mine! The post driver would have bounced off my head landed and on my foot, then when I pitched forward to grab my foot I would have spit the top of my head on the T post. Then the temper would have gone and I would probably broke a couple fingers when I smacked the post. And the worst part someone would have video taped it so I could see my stupid a$$ doing it again and again.
But super glue and Duct tape do work well to hold things closed!!

And they say guns will put your eye out! Man is he lucky, though you might not think so right now, but that could have walluped him in the eye.
If he sustained more than just a gash, like a concussion, he will start to feel nauseated with possible blurred vision. I fell one time in our attack and beamed my forehead on a 2x4 truss. I saw stars! I didn't go to the doctor and the next day I woke up with my whole face swollen, two black eyes and feeling really bad. I went to the emergency room and they fussed at me for not coming in the afternoon before when the accident occurred. Head injuries are nothing to play around with. A scar is one thing, but brain injury is a matter of life and death.
Hope he heals well with no complications Aspen!

I can picture this one for sure.
However, to be serious for a nanosecond: watch for redness and heat around the wound. If this occurs, it's time to see a doctor.
In the mean time: wash twice a day with warm water and clean cloth. Put neosporon on the wound and cover with clean guaze and tape (I've used darn near everything for tape: duct, masking, scotch, surgical...).
If he keeps it open to the air, the scar can be worse.
But really...I will never look across the road at HOW again without recalling this one! :rofl :lool

Let me tell you...he has one doozie of a headache today, and isn't moving real fast!!!!! I told him this morning if it started to get red around the cut he was off to the doctors if he liked it or not. He did this one time shortly after we got together...he put a very sharp piece of metal through his shoe and nailed his foot to the floor, and than the sharp 12' long object fell over to the side....OUCH!!! Wouldn't go to the doctor until the red lines started to run up his leg. Man did that doctor chew him a new one!!!!!
Hopefully this one won't get that bad!!!!But of course we are at the gun range this week-end, hosting the colorado state championships. I'm going to have to be on his butt to make sure he keeps it clean and covered. Don't think he'll be wearing any cowboy hats real soon...it's right where the band would hit. (Plus they won't fit with the lump he's got on his forehead!)
Sherry..keeping my fingers crossed your right...cuz he wasn't using it at the time.

Watch those headaches! If he gets blurry vision, off to the doctor! He needs to watch for tingling (like nerve tingling). If the headaches continue or get mind splitting, go to the doctor! Your body is telling you something and you got to listen.
Personally, I'd have sent him at gun point. *grin* Head injuries are nothing to laugh at. Cuts are one thing but bleeding in the brain is another critter entirely. This can cause headaches, dizziness, tingling.

On tha week-end, wrap him up around his head, an' dress him in an' "olde" jacket, an' give him a fife, an' stomp on his foot so he limps.............
That outa help him git away without a hat......

Aspen, I sure feel bad about how you are worried...and it wouldn't hurt him to go....but, go figure....MEN! Maybe you should tell him you could enjoy the shoot if he would see a doctor before you go.....just to relieve your mind. (since it seems to do the most work!) :) I am sure you have thought of everythng by now though...you know him, but
Wrangler, I think you should see a doctor for your wife's sake! :tap
Good luck to the both of you....I'll be sending good karma your way!
Duzy(just my two cents worth)Wales (hey, where are our nurses? Could they tell him just how bad it could get?)

Clean it well first.......
Use Bactine and butterfly bandages. Then Neosporin after it starts to heal.
But I'm not a Dr. or a nurse, so better wait for our Alley nurses, LL, or Lizzie (I think).
Hope he gets to felling better fast.
But,,,,, if you had a video of that, then you might win on "America's funniest videos" :lool

The best thing now is to keep it clean.....to late for stiches or butterflies...they need to be applied shortly after the incident.....again, watch for reddness and heat....

Being "Button" could be fun! He gets to lie around on the doctor's table most of the day and then, at the last minute, he drags his hurtin' self to the shootout! Cool!

Aspen, geeze, you have your hands full. Being that I spend my days managing an urgent care, my advice would be to get him looked at soon. As Lizzie said, it is too late for stitches or butterflies, but there are other things that can cause bigger problems with head injuries....like a subcranial hematoma....not trying to scare anyone, but it is a possibility and best to catch it early.
Wrangler, get your butt in the car and go to the doctor!! :tap

Boy I'm glad that Fannie put a word to what I was trying to describe. Thank you so much!
Look, many years ago, an acquaintance died from this. It is serious and not to fool with. Tis better that you are sent home accused of being paranoid rather than refusing treatment (like this person did and paid for it with his life).

He won't go...he says it was a glancing blow.
I wish he would.....I'd gladly eat crow!!!
Seriously......his pupils are the same size, doesn't have an horrible headache, the cut is still sore (but that's to be expected) He's keeping it smothered in Neosporin and has a bandage over the top. He is going to have one nasty a%$ scar though. Just doesn't do well with having to really working hard yet. And that's hard for him.....he usually jumps into a job and ...gets er done!
He's suppose to help mow the entire gun club tomorrow (it was 107 degrees this afternoon out there) Don't think he'll last the whole time! Just have to keep my eye on him!:sailor
He's a stubborn thing that's for sure....he'd have to be half dead before he'd go to a doctor!
