Greeneyed Gypsy
08-31-2005, 10:57 AM
Kid ...you got to be careful throwing words like "single" around with us girls listening...we might get the idea that you need lookin' after.

There is just something all together wrong with a good looking cowboy wandering around unattached like...

Ya'll are gonna have to wait until tomorrow to see pictures of me in my new gypsy corset :ss , but I have to tell you that I LOVE IT!!!!! :dc It's comfy, curvy, and black-----what more could a girl ask for? I sewed on 2 black venise lace applique's (by hand again------BTW, this hand sewing crap is all Quickdraw Pinkerton's fault [but that's another story] :nuhnuh ) and then accented them with just a couple little gold beads {yes, folks-------I have lost my ever lovin' mind! :goofy }! Hubby said that he liked me in it very much, but stated he preferred me out of it altogether even more! evilb: :sk

Well, before the meltdown, I had posted my corset and petticoat on my "Womanquin" but with the submissions ruling, I had my daughter take a pic, actually it took 4 to get a descent one, plus cropping, etc. So beware, don't blame me for any cases of blindness, or madness that result from viewing this pic, but here it is: If I can remember how to do this.

Thank you right kindly all. My face shows how tired I was at about 11 last night. Youngun also asked me to remove my specs so I was wide eyed trying to see her and tell her how to operate the camera. I thinkin of making a new corset though, I've "grown" a bit since I made that one a few years ago and I've used it for Victorian dressing and for Renaissance dressing too. Where would be the least expensive place to get a busk with shipping prices that aren't an imitation of high way robbery?

"corset making supplies" has busks for about 15$ and Hedgehog works has the best price bones. Dont forgrt your grommets and laces...the 20$ you will pay for a yard of Coutil is WELL WORTH it in both sturdiness and cuts and sews like a dream! Grannd Companies does good buisness as well as Farthingales.

Conspiracy! :grin Thats what it is, plain and simple. " When two or more ladies gather together with the intent, (with or without malice), to cause or prevent from natural happenings, any direct course, or discourse of nature, or to perpetrate against any male or a group of males, invoking any Physiological condition of Biblical proporation which results in misdirection of blood flow to the central nervous system and the corresponding appendages and renders the victim senseless, stupid, idiotic and otherwise hopelessly lost for words. (typical male behavior), upon meeting a woman or a group of women for the first time". :fm

So many beautiful corsets! All you ladies are so beautiful in them. I need to make mine NOW! Single? Yes, Lioness is a single lady too. I don't know any men around here that are interested in this SASS stuff. I'd love to go to the convention, but my son asked for a December birthday trip to Disneyland to stay in the Grand Californian for a few days. Otherwise, I might ask for a sashay around the dance floor too! (Please)(if I could get up the courage) :re

Lucky, we've already settled the gamer question to our satisfaction: see Nellie Blue's sig line! So now we can go on to important stuff, like, say, Which is purtier, the Doré corset or the Silverado? {whisper mode on: the correct answer is, "Any corset with one of you gals inside it is the purtiest." Don't let on I told you. whisper mode off}

Boys, you know we'd never lay unkind hands on you! I just like to see you turn a little pale, with those cute li'l beads of sweat poppin' out on your foreheads.

Pretty pretty pretty! (And aren't Victorian gals supposed to blush?)

Karolina, is that chemise the Simplicity 5726 "Fashion Historian" pattern? I just finished the Laughing Moon chemise, and though their corsets may be the best on the market, I didn't like the way the chemise went together, and don't much care for the finished product. I've got Simplicity 5726, and thought I'd give it a shot, so any reports from an experienced product tester would be much appreciated.

Particularly, when made up as specified, is the neckline low enough in front and back so it doesn't show under a ballgown bodice?

Cheers,
Coffee Em

Thanks so much guys..

Kitty, I'll post pictures when ready and tell you my opinions, I promise...
:book

Coffee Em, this is actually the TV pattern and it's great. How high/low it is depends intirely on how much you pull the neckline ribbon. I don't know if it would be low enough for a ballgown bodice, guess it depends on how low your bodice neckline is. If it's very low, maybe you should try making a chemise with no shoulder straps? I think we discussed that on the TV board a while ago... Hope that helps!

So my husband told me to go put it on lay-by as he was going to buy it for me for christmas....So what ever i dont spend on my travel allowance while im in Washington i will come back and get it out!...

One bagger - You put a bag over his/her head.

Two bagger - You put a bag over your head in case his/hers falls off.

Three bagger - You put a bag over the dog's head, so he doesn't bite him/her, when they leave in the morning.

COYOTE UGLY - You would rather gnaw your arm off, than wake him/her in the morning, when you leave.

WOLF UGLY - You gnaw your other arm off when you get outside, so you can never drink again.

Hey Folks,

You can say all of the nice things you want about how Alli looks in that corset. That photo does not do her justice. If you'd seen her in person you would be speechless. She has the tiniest waist...

The Belles are even prettier in person than in photos. My God, you should see Fannie's complexion. Kate is the sweetest darlin' friendly lady. (Boo hoo, I didn't see much of Barrelhead.) Shawn and Iron Feather are so down-to-earth friendly. Although, IF could use a course in mirror holding.

All of them are gorgeous and very creative with their sewing. I'm sure you knew that. However, all of their sewing is impeccable when you're up close too. I loved the stripe dresses. They were all so different.

I just wish I had been able to spend more time with them and the rest of the Alley Cats. Maybe next year...

I just started listing all the fun people I met; but, I deleted it all. Like I said before, I don't want to forget anyone. I suffer from CRS.

Regards,

Allie Mo

I am just so glad you liked it Alli...and PT dont get me started I would be taking it apart and starting over...it needs more waist and and a privacy panel, and more shape at the top and ... and see???
It does look sensational and yes Mo she has the tiniest waist! I was shocked to find I could not wear that particular corset! I knew the bust would be too big, but alas I thought the waist would fit?!!?!? NO! Its just not fair but there it is...and imagine Fannie can wear the same size corset, same tiny little waist...it baffels the mind...

They are interesting to build corsets and you learn a bit more with each one.

It's the Dore. I'm making a gold silverado like my avatar. I used to be the size of my avatar, then I had two babies in the last three years.:18 So I'm malleable and there's a ton of redistribution going on. My dore laces completely closed because I didn't figure the squish factor in so hopefully the sizing will be better on my silverado. I'm also hoping the bust is a little better on the silverado since I feel like I'm going to burst out of this one at any moment. (BTW I think your corset is lovely! If you want more waistline, make the bust and hips bigger than the waist than you normally would and that should give you more curve that nature may have forgotten ;) )

NoGunz Kay
12-11-2005, 11:02 PM
I used to look like your avatar too, but I got married. I went from a 34B to a 42D and I've only had one baby, 12 years ago. My poor corset, I have to keep letting it out everytime I wear it. The girls just are getting droopier all the time. I've got about a 5 inch gap now in the back so I guess its time to make a new one. Course, I let my hubby wash my corset once and being that it is made of cotton, it might have shrank some too. I just thought of that. But I still could use a new one.

Goldie that is beautiful! And I doubt the menfolk will spurn you for the lack of a chemise...:w2

I think the dore looks good on you, to help the hold it in issue bring the top of the corset up more making it more of an over bust look, these are patterned to hit pretty much mid bust which is ackward for modern women used to a bra that covers more. Also for the sizing table its a good idea to go down one size and use one size less than your modern cup size, it is a rare woman that can wear a D cup in a corset. The larger the size you are on the chart, the more you may want to go down ...say you measure around a 20....cut out the 18 in mock up fabric you will probably be very close. I neglected that little rule recently...sigh...too big starting over...making a sizing mock this time...:sewing

I think the Dore has more waist... the silverado seems straighter to me, its longer I like that about it though...I just take the side waist seams in a bit more for more curve.

What kind of fabric are you using for the gold? I found a site that has beautiful gold satin bias for finishing the top and bottom...I will go dig them up for you.

Goldie
12-12-2005, 02:31 AM
I went down two sizes with this one and ended up taking the muslin in quite a bit! I also wear a tripple D so the D dup is nice and snug. I was a little concerned it wouldn't be enough:18 , but It ended up being okay. I have lots of loose skin so it does a lot of shifting. I'm planning on adding the hip gores for more reduction on the silverado, but we'll see how the muslin goes.I'll go back to the dore is it isn't the shape I want and good idea about extending the bust. I do think I'd be a lot more comfortable in more of an overbust style (even if it isn't very pc) In this one I keep feeling like I'm making my own version of 'the belles bust out'. I'm using a gold dupioni for the next one, but I could just as easily use some of my stashed gold fabric if it matches the bias tape you found! Thank you!

This corset is made from the brocade that we are doing as well one in black and white. The single layer girls are welcome to choose this brocade or the satin or even the plain coutil.

I guess you can get up, but if you are going to stick your tounge out at me, there may be a slap heading your way!

Greeneyed Gypsy

that depends on your oppinion of easier...
You only have to sew together one set of pieces ( well the fron two and back two are double as normal on mine for busk and grommetts to be set.)

You still have all the careful stitching of the bias chanels which some people might find tedious...I think they go together faster...you dont have to worry about your lining getting messed up if it shifts which can happen in a two layer...

I personally love them...but I am not sure how well they would work with a gored type corset (silverado) I am sure they could I just have not tried it...

Also you can line them if you like (with this nice brocade I dont think it is needed) but anyway you can line basically you put you right sides out sew with seams out toward the front and place all the chanels. I dont know if that makes sense...anywho...yes I guess they are a more simplified way to make a corset, sadly they dont cost less because the bias I use (that pretty satin stuff) adds to material cost and I usually use about 12-15 yards on a corset like the one posted.
