I want to make an Annie Oakley outfit for Kelsey for PIP 06. Any suggestions on patterns to use and where I could find them?

This was taken at the Autry Western Heritage museum this past weekend.
Annie looks like she's wearing a split skirt with decorative trim.
I'll look for another photo of her. I seem to remember two of her.

LL,
Here is an outfit on E-bay that she has dubbed an Annie Oakley style dress. She also has a great original picture shown as the source of her inspiration.

The Ageless Patterns bicycling outfit skirt looks like the pleated one in the pics. I have the pattern. Let me know and you can use mine if you like. Heaven knows, I'm so far behind in shirts and vests that I won't be sewing for myself for a looooonnnngggg time. Besides, as fast as you sew, you'll have it back to me before I get done with everything I have cut out anyhow! :re

:ban OH OH I'm so excited! I have something i can contribute to this forum! :ban :ban I made my daughter Jewell (10 years old) an Annie Oakley outfit earlier this year. We studied all the photos like the ones posted her and chose the outfit with the pleated skirt and the embroideried roses. I don't have a picture available to me here at work but I will post one of her in it this evening when I get home. We made it out of ultrasuede and used TV 420 (cut WAY down) for the bodice. I added lace around the collar and embroideried a rose on a little pocket I added (kids always have to have pockets). The skirt was basically a kilt....a long length of pleated fabric with a waistband attached. I again embroidered a a big rose on the front panel. The great thing about the skirt is I can adjust the fasteners as she grows a little. I wanted to make gaiters but cheated a little by just making leggings (long tubes of fabric with elastic around the top) instead. For the hat we took an old brown felt hat of mine, tacked up one side in the front and added a silver star that my husband bought at the local military base.
Gosh I wish I had a picture here now to share with you. :cry

Thanks everyone! After studying the pictures, it looks like I need to make her a pair of leggings as well. That should be interesting! I like the idea of the split skirt and the bodice with the little tail thing. The tuck-in blouse would just be all over the place when she would be shooting. I'll have to take a look at Uniport Industries and see what kind of embroidered applique's they have to do this up right. This should be fun!

Jewell turned 10 in August. She loved this outfit. Thought it was cool when people walked up to her and called her Annie. ;)
Our biggest problem is that it's too hot most of the year for her to wear this. I hope she still can when the temps finally drop.

Anyone have any ideas on the patterns you might use to make an outfit similar to the ebay one? That is a MUST have for me! I love it.

Take a look at the Laughing Moon pattern. The bodice wouldn't be correct, but a TV bodice should solve that. I think Miss Fannie has this outfit and looks fabulous in it. http://lafnmoon.com/cowgirl.htm The leggings are included.

Angel Outlaw,
My best guess would be the TV4221881 Dinner Bodice http://trulyvictorian.netfirms.com/natural.html for the bodice. The skirt you could probably use a few different ones. Maybe TV221 1878 Tie-Back Underskirt
http://trulyvictorian.netfirms.com/natural.html _ haven’t made this one yet so I am not sure how full it is in the front & there aren’t any good pictures on the TV site of it without an overskirt.
or TV2611885 Four-Gore Underskirt http://trulyvictorian.netfirms.com/latebust.html shortened in the back for the lack of bustle. Same with the TV201 1870's Underskirt
http://trulyvictorian.netfirms.com/bustlecat.html.
I hope that was a little bit helpful. Someone else might have some more suggestions for you too!

Oh, yeah! That Annie Oakley site belongs to Marna Jean. You should go to http://www.shootingstarhistory.com and look around. Marna Jean and her husband do Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. She has some wonderful costume ideas. I don't think she sells the patterns, though. Ask her. She may be able to give you some pointers on a costume.
