Today was looking at first like it was going to be a great day! I got up obscenely early to get to work extra early so that I could LEAVE early today to go to the beach! I had so much to do but by getting an early start I could count on leaving around 3:00 and heading east to the coast. But by mid morning I got the news that my trip had to be postponed until tomorrow because my friend got "stuck" in Chicago due to the weather. More on that later. Well I was a little down about that but decided I wanted to go together and opted not to drive down myself today. That decided I just kept working as 3:00 came and went. I am glad I did.

I finally left the office at 5:30 and just as I was getting in my car, I got a call from my Mom. I could tell from her voice immediately that something was very wrong. She tearfully told me that my aunt Pat had her cancer check up today and that the news was not good.

About a year ago, my beloved aunt Pat from Colorado, my Dad's sister, was diagnosed with colon cancer. Though normally very curable, this had metastasized to her liver. The doctors were very optimistic that if she could fight it out, they felt they could get it. So she started a year long battle that included some gruesome chemo, radiation and a surgery to remove much of her colon and most of the tumor from her liver. The doctors felt confident that with more chemo, they could get the rest of the cancer in her liver and felt that they would get a clean scan in the spring. We all expected it. I don't think a single one of us ever thought that Pat would not kick this demon in the *** and win. But it seems that is not to be.

Today, the doctors found that the cancer had returned to her liver, and was also now in her lymph nodes. Worst of all, she also has a spot on her lung. As you can imagine, my family is devastated. I know that we all want to be as positive and hopeful as possible, but this seems insurmountable. Still, I can't imagine a life without my Aunt Pat in it.

So I turned to my friends Fannie and Kate and poured out my heart. Kate says, "Pray, Allison, miracles happen all the time." And so I am. But I believe that prayer works best when it is shared and multiplied and spread out. All that energy works the miracles, all that power behind the simple faith that it will happen if we ask.

And so I am asking you all to please pray for my Aunt. She is a SASS member, and her alias is Buckshot Red from Pierce, Colorado. If you know her, give her a little time but then call her. Write her. Let her and her family, like my cousin Big Hand Mike know that you are praying for them.

I hope that I don't ask too much from all of you because I have leaned on you heavily over the last three years. And this makes all the rest pale in comparison. I need you all now. I am not ready to give up, but I can't do it alone. I have never lost anyone to this disease and I don't know how to even process the possibility. All I can do is pray that I don't have to learn just yet. Not yet.

Thank you for what I know what will be your heartfelt prayers. I and my family are very grateful.

Alli, As you know this strikes so close to home, it scares me to death. I can't began to tell you how this impacts a persons life. I will keep "Buckshot Red" in my daily prayers. I am a firm believer in prayer..It works...But we all have to do this in our own way. So I am asking all of you to come on to the Alley Saturday at 4pm Pacific time, and meet here and recite this prayer with me. We can work wonders as a group, I don't care what belief you have or how you pray..That's not important, we have a Sister in need, and I ask each of to join me Here. Until then I offer this prayer:

"O All-Gracious, most wondrous Mother of God, Queen of All! I am not worthy that Thou shouldst enter under my roof! But as Thou art the lovingly compassionate Mother of the merciful God, say the word that the soul of "Buckshot Red" may be healed and her weakened body strengthened. For Thou hast unconquerable might, and all Thy speech hath power, O mother of God! Do Thou gain the victory for her, do Thou supplicate for her- that she may glorify Thy most glorious name, always, now and ever, and unto endless ages." Amen.

I don't ask much from y'all, but I am asking for this for Alli's Aunt. If you can't be here please take that moment, Saturday evening 7 pm Eastern, 4 pm Pacific, to join with us wherever you may happen to be. :ty Alli if there is anything I can do, I am here 24/7 for either you or your Aunt and her family.

Alli, I have lost a very dear aunt to colon cancer. She was only forty-two at the time. She saved the lives of two of her sisters by impressing on her whole family how important that regular colonoscopy appointment is. I know how scared and helpless you feel. I hope my prayers and everyone elses' make sure your fears never come to pass and that special woman in your life is here for a long time to come. I'll be here at four pm on Saturday, until then I will continue to pray for strength for your whole family.

Thank you all for your kind words and mostly for your thoughtful prayers. I know that this is going to be a very long hard road but I pray that we all make it to the other end. I woke up this morning and my first thought was wondering what Pat woke up thinking this morning. I know that some of you have had more experience with this than I have which is none. I would appreciate your insight and your words of advice in addition to your prayers.

I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I will be gone most of the weekend and out of internet reach but I will be reciting KS's prayer with you tomorrow at 4:00 pm PT (7:00 pm EDST)

I will talk to you all Monday night.

I love you all

Please know that your aunt (and you) will be in my thoughts and prayers during this ordeal. It's not easy! Like others, this ugly disease has hit my family and many friends. I don't know if I'll be able to be online at that time tomorrow for the massive prayer but will certainly say it on my own if I can't.

My dear friend Allie...last year I spent 9 months watching my grandfather slip a little more each day...there is no advice to give but love those you hold dear with all you have within you each an every day...If it is in your power to do so, help her to live each day in the way that she chooses...take the time to say all that you feel inyour heart...don't worry about being sensible or doing the expected thing...do what you feel in your heart to do...I promise you you will be glad each day of your life that you did.

Your aunt will be in my daily prayers and you will be there right along side her with all my deepest request for health and joy and firm knowledge that this life is a gift and blessing from God and every breath is given in the hope for peace.

Dear Alli, I waited to respond to your post because I have been away from Charlotte and didn't know whether Longeye knew....he usually lets me keep him apprised of what is going on in the Alley, emails and PM's. We are both deeply sorry to hear the sad news of your Aunt and you and your Aunt will be in our hearts and thoughts daily.

Alli, you know you can count on Longeye for his friendship and love. I am here for you too. We will be sending our best karma your way and if there is anything we can do....just let us know.

I agree with Gypsy in that you use everyday to let those you love know just how much they are loved and that you have time now to tell your Aunt what is in your heart. As you know, Longeye has been through this and he says that all you can do is tell her how you feel, let her know how much she is loved and we pray that you do not have to let her go....but, if you do, you have all your friends here on the Alley that are here supporting you.

Longeye said for me to tell you that if you need to talk....he will be there for you. That goes for me as well, but I understand the friendship and love that you two share.....so I will make sure he gets any messages you send.

Thinking of you, Duzy and Longeye

Everyone, Alli originally posted this thread in May 2006. Since that time Buckshot Red, Alli's aunt has had ups and downs. Aunt Pat, as she is lovingly referred to by Alli, has fought a good battle and has shown such great faith and tenacity during these past two years. But, tonight, Alli tells me that Pat is back in the hospital. She is not doing well. So, I ask you my friends, to please lift Pat up in your prayers, to ask for her comfort and strength and peace while battling this demon. Please lift up her family, too. Her husband, children, grandchildren, her brother (Alli's dad) and our dear precious Alli need comfort and peace during this time also.
I pray for the Lord's will and for his peace and understanding no matter the outcome. We have family that is hurting and I know that those of you here will pray for their comfort. I thank you for your love and concern and for the outpouring of prayers that I know will start as soon as I post this.

This prayer I offer is for those suffering from Cancer. It is highly recognized in some Orthodox religions.

Prayer to the Mother of God

O Most-Pure Mother of God, O Queen of All! Hearken unto our much-afflicted sighing before Thy miraculous Icon, brought to Russia from the land of Athos. Look upon Thy children, suffering from unhealed ailments, who fall down before Thy holy image with faith! As a bird covers its nestlings with its wings, so do Thou now, who art ever present, cover us with Thy greatly healing omophorion. In that place where Hope be.

There where bitter sorrows overcome us, there will Patience and Rest be revealed. Where the torment of despair dwells in the soul, there will shine the ineffable Light of Divinity! Console the fainthearted, strengthen the weak, bestow softening and enlightenment upon embittered hearts. Heal Thine ailing people, O All-merciful Queen! Bless the minds and hands of our physicians, that they might serve as instruments of the All-powerful Physician, Christ our Saviour. We pray before Thine Icon, that Thou mightest truly live with us, O Sovereign Lady! Stretch out Thy hands, filled with healing and cures, O Joy of the sorrowful, Consolation in afflictions, that having speedily received miraculous help, wee may glorify the Life-creating and Undivided Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, unto the ages of ages. Amen.

The second from the Catholic Religion:

Prayers to Saint Peregrine

Prayer to The Mother of Sorrows through the intercession of Saint Peregrine

O my dearest Mother Mary,
Mother of Sorrows, behold me, your child, in prayer.
I have come to plead for this special favor
through the intercession of your faithful servant, Saint Peregrine:
Please heal and relieve the pain of Buckshot Red during her time of Cancer.
O Sorrowful Mother,
I beg you to present my petition to your Divine Son.
If you will pray for me, I cannot be refused.
I know, dearest Mother,
that you want me to seek God's Will in all things.
Therefore, with childlike trust,
I abandon myself to God's Holy Will concerning my request.
If what I ask for should not be granted,
pray that I may receive that which will be of greater benefit to my soul.
Mother of Sorrows, I Love You!
I put my confidence in you,
because your prayers before God are most powerful.
For the greater glory of God
and through the intercession of Saint Peregrine,
whom you have led to Sainthood,
hear and grant my prayer.
Amen.

Alli, I sincerely hope that the pain is relieved during this struggle. Sometimes God calls us home, and sometimes we are not ready, But I ask and pray that should your aunt be called home to sit next to our Heavenly Father, she be without pain and with love and understanding in her heart.

I regret not having met you in person, but have watched and "listened" to you here on the Alley over the past couple years, and have come to love and respect you enormously. We are a family here, honey, and when one of our dear family is hurting, we all feel the pain. I would love nothing more than to give you a big hug - sometimes when words can't convey the feelings, a hug right from the heart works the best. So please know that in my heart I am hugging you right now. Hold onto all the precious memories of your beloved Aunt Pat. And then, dear Alli, go on with life - live each day to the fullest. That will be a tribute to your aunt, as that is exactly what she would want you to do. Love you.
