Ever wonder where all the stuff goes when you take it out of your kitchen?

And finally, the finished product!!!! Our German Shepherd is in the first pic. She is getting BIG.
On the counter, in the last pic is the horse clock my kids got me for my birthday. My grandfather had one and I always loved it. When he died, my grandmother sold it at a garage sale and I never had the opportunity to buy it. :(
So my kids got it on ebay. They actually got TWO. The first one never arrived They paid top dollar for shipping and insurance. The lady said she lost the insurance papers and basically told us to eat it. We went to pay pal and they told her to pay up. She harrassed us for months. I would NEVER recommend this woman as a seller.
Anyway, we got another from someone else for half the price and it came within 5 days. I love that clock!
And now we can have 3 cooks in the kitchen without stepping on each other. The only thing I'd change if I did it again, is granite countertops. I like my corian knockoff tops but they do scratch so we are careful.

The lighting is unbelievable! We needed good light because the only outside light was the sliding door and a small kitchen window.
One of the fun events we had was picking out the cabinet knobs. I really didn't like what the contractor had and really wanted something that brought in the living room decor and the western/victorian flair we have throughout the house.
So I went to the internet. We found http://myknobs.com. They had some 8,900 knobs to choose from. Isn't the internet GREAT????
I picked out over 100 knobs that I liked and sat down with the husband. The rule was: we both must like it or it's out.
We got down to two knobs: the original that the contractor had and the ones we got. (Guess who's arm got twisted???)
They are star like the SASS badge! My daughters wanted to kill me for that.

Dog Woman,
Your kitchen looks terrific. This is no easy task. :chick
I am planning on four-inch eyeball pot lights. Is that what you have?
I want to use knotty alder in my new kitchen. Is that what you used?

We used the inset can lights (can is set into the ceiling with a 4" light). I'm guessing that's what you mean. They put 9 into the ceiling with one over the sink. It really throws the light. Before the room was so dark.
The cabinets are knotty alder. It is a soft wood but it's harder than pine and we wanted the wood character.
Here is a direct link to the knob: http://www.myknobs.com/kncaknandpuw31.html
They have several styles, but husband didn't want too much flash. I wanted moose antler knobs. Darn near got hung out to dry for that idea!
Some day I hope to paint a stone wall mural on the one wall. I have been working on a sacrificial wall in my basement laundry room but I haven't come up with something that made me happy.

That looks absolutely gorgeous. My hubbie does kitchen cabinets, etc. and those look great. Doesn't it feel so wonderful when your in their working. Win did ours about 4 years ago and I still love it. A great kitchen can really make the house! The heart of the home you know!

I have to agree about the kitchen. Besides my studio, I practically live in this room. Between the two grills outside and the kitchen, I have a ball cooking (when the mood really strikes).

Moose antler would have been great! Not flashy, and tied in with the chandelier. Oh, well, some people's genius is simply not destined to be recognized in their own time. :rofl
But the knobs you picked are great--make me want to swap out all of ours (we have lovely cabinet hardware, but...cowboy! Want cowboy!)
Cheers,

Looks like you have plenty of cabinet space now, DW. I like the wood on those cabinets, has a lot of character. We're about due for at least some new counter tops, been thinking about the newer materials, but the pricing I'm seeing is kinda putting me off.............Buck:99

I forgot about one small detail when home remodelling: DUST.
We had to dust down the walls through the entire house. We changed the furnace filter every two weeks for two months.
Every dish had to be rewashed before putting it away. The hardest thing was FINDING WHERE YOU PUT THE STUFF LATER!
I may sneak in those moose antlers yet. We had built in cabinets and drawers in our hallway. I really would love them redone but they are in great shape. They are solid wood so at this point, they stay. I'll sneak in those moose antlers when the husband is on TDY. *grin*
That was the real fear we had. We replaced solid wood cabinets in our kitchen. I was assured by several old cabinet makers that what we had was really good and not to worry. These were 'old school' guys so I guess I'll trust their judgement.
