I may have asked this back before the board crashed but I don’t recall & now any answers would be gone anyway. So I have a couple questions to ask.

1) Has anyone made either the Past Patterns polonaise & walking skirt pattern or the Truly Victorian Polonaise? I almost bought the Past Patterns one at GOA but the pattern says that they yardage is only 4 ½ yards for both the polonaise & skirt! That didn’t seem right to me so I waited to check out Heathers again.

2) How hard are they to make? The thing that concerns me about the TV one is that is says for intermediate to advanced sewers

3) Is it possible to make this so that it will look good but be suitable to shoot in? I keep toying with the idea of trying to shoot in a bustle but I don’t know it I want to or not. The Past Pattern one doesn’t really look too bustlely but the TV I know should have one.

So any advice anyone has on any of these would be great!

Thanks!

You have to understand, I have been sewing since I was about 10 so that makes it over...well anyways, I didn't think it was too hard, actually think some of the "big" patterns are more confusing to sew...the hardest for me to understand and work out on the polonaise was the fold on the sleeve...

Hi Lily,

I've made that dress twice (the TV Polonaise). Here's a photo of the first one. I rounded the neck and front hem to be "different." I kept catching my long guns in the sleeve, so I folded them up.

I wondered about the "intermediate" thing too. The pattern went together very easily.

Good luck and post a photo!

Regards,

Allie Mo

Thank you ladies!!! You all are most helpful! Well except Shawme, I mean really what pattern wouldn’t be easy for her, right :moon !!! (love you PMS!!! :kiss )

Lizzie, I just had to tease you! I have been sewing since I was little too, but more conventional (& boring) things than Victorian clothing! So I still get a bit intimidated when I am attempting something new.

I thought that if Heather says it’s "intermediate" that is a little intimidating. But then I guess that I should have figured that she would do such a great job on the pattern that it wouldn’t really be all that bad!

Allie Mo, Great outfit!!! :bow I was wondering about those sleeves getting in the way. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to make them narrower & ¾ to avoid getting them caught up in my rifle. ‘Cause if it can be done I will find a way to do it! Did I mention that “Grace” is not my middle name!!!???

GG are you back!!?? How are you dear? Been thinking of you! Hope you, Mom & the littles are well. :chockiss

Hi Lily! My pink striped dress is the TV polonaise pattern, and we made the sleeves narrow and stopped at just below the elbows. I hate sleeves dragging in my food!!!!! I've also had "Susans Polonaise" by Buckaroo Bobbins made, and I like them both, my seamstress liked the TV a little better, said it was a bit easier. I like the polonaise patterns, since it leave less to tie around my middle, which doesn't need any help to look bigger!!! Skye
