Ok, wow! This is cool! I missed this forum most of all!
This is what I did today: organized my sewing area! Things were getting out of control (can you imagine that!), and I needed to do something. So I re-wrapped my ribbon, matched up all my lace appliques', put my pattern pieces back in the right envelopes, and put fabric/lace/buttons for specific projects together so that I wouldn't loose them. It took longer than I thought, but I love the results! Now to do some serious sewing this weekend. Watch out world!
I have been doing a lot of research into my authentic nurse's uniform as well. I met a guy down here in Dover who has helped me tremendously-----he has a collection of nurse emphyrea like no one else. You know all of those pretty chatelaines on e-bay? I would be good money that most of them were nurse's chatelaines! I will have to download the pictures that I took, cause just about every one of them are wearing one! I have found Red Cross pins from the 19th century (4 to be exact), and was given to tin Red Cross buttons from the Crimean War! How cool is that?! Well today, I found an 1877 nursing school pin! It was at Ruby Lane. They had all kinds of stuff there----it was all very cool! I did a little more snooping and found a website that had reproduction nurses caps from the 19th century til current. I bought 2 "puffy" caps. I spoke to my leather guy, and he said that he received the brass skirt clips, and he'll get started on making the leather nurse chatelaine's fairly soon. The only thing that I am missing now is a cape. I think that I can just go and get a costume pattern for one at Joanne's and make my own. I am just going to need to find some nice navy blue wool and a knock-out red lining for it. I think this project is the first one that I am going to do for next year.
