Fleur, I know that you style wigs, but could you help out a little with my wig styling. Mine needs washing, and after that I don't even know where to start with the styling the updo????? All the wig places around here only style the wigs they sell. Plus, I need to know how to fix and style it when we get somewhere, because it sometimes gets messed up in the car.
Maybe some of the other ladies would like to know too!!!:kiss :kiss :kiss

Hey TL, sometimes when I wash my wigs I don't know what to do with them either. Some are no problem but when I can't get one to work I go to a local hairdresser. All hairdressers learn to style hair by practicing with wigs and some are willing to continue working with wigs after they graduate from school. So call around and see if anyone's willing. The woman who does my wigs charges $25. :)

Fleur, I would love a class on wig styling! I would love to know how to get those wigs to look like the Wig Lady does! (okay, not the CD wigs! Just the Victorian ones!!)

Well ALL, I will style or restyle your wig for you!! 25 is VERY good!
BUT If you want to do it yourself then....
I will deconstruct my wig and then do a step by step shortly!!
I started with doll heads that had rooted hair then began styling wigs to sell too!
i can also give washing instructions. And curling too!

Oh yeah, and I didn't mention in my post above that I'd like to save that $25 and do those difficult wigs myself. Fleur can you show us how to style wigs that are long and all one length AND long layered wigs as well? :ty

Thank you girls.
I have called a few of the shops, but no one like to mess with wigs anymore, much less do the updo's. Plus like I said, sometimes I have to "fix" something that gets out of place.
I can tease it up and just start pinning curls up here and there, but I would like to know where to start, to do it the proper way.
Fleur, if we "all" mess them up, then you will have a lot of business, just styling them all for us!!!
I wanted to get it done before we leave next week to go to the Smokey Mt. Shootout, but I am afraid I won't be able to get it "right", and really didn't want to wear my red wig with my red, white and blue dress. The frosted blonde/brown one looks better.
I just pulled some small tuffs of hair, under and back out around the bottom, so the edge didn't show. (I knew that crochet knowledge would come in good one day). With that hair and some more, I put sponge rollers all around the sides and bottom to make ringlets ( and keep them in when I'm not wearing it.) I teased the rest of the wig lightly and pulled back into a small loose bun, low enough on the head not to interfere with my hats. and then just teased and styled the front with bangs. I didn't know where to start to do the curls.
My hair is long enough to put up, but when i do it; it always looks goofey. So I put it in a ponytail and clip on a hair piece. Which looks ok.
This is the wig in this pic, but my hat covers most of it.

Hi TL,
That sure looks good to me. I love the color too. It's the best for me too and it is hard to find.
I think I will buy some curlers.

Wig cleaningBrush small sections till free of tangles till wig is done.
Fill sink with warm water not too warm or you will have a broken curl pattern
And swish in a bit of clear shampoo (creamy will dull and gum up fibers)
Dip wig allow to sit for a little while so that the gunk on the wig can disolve
Massage fibers lightly (not to matte them)
pull wig out and rinse in a cooler bath of clear water.
squeeze water out lie on towel roll up in towel and allow to sit a spell
un-roll and hang wig up over a rack or bottle and allow to FULLY dry before touching. if not you will ruin the curl and the fibers will break.
When dry comb small sections wraping the curl around your fingers!!
Styling will come with pics shortly after I teach a hat class in a few hours!

Begin by sectioning out a round section in the middle of the wig as seen in first pic tease and spiral it into a bun as a base DON'T SQUISH leave it puffy!
you can also roll it into a roll backwards or forwards as seen in pic2
section out bangs and fringe pin away for later.
section of curls brush the strand and spritz with hair spray roll as if you are rolling it on a curler or spiral it flat like pin curls as seen in the cosmetology text pages. Full base curls are the fullest half base medium full and off base is the least full. (i can explain that later)
Begin from the center and work in a cicular motion .Surround your bun with curls finessing them all on and around in small sections pinning the base of the curl to the base of the wig or on the bun or roll!
Split larger curls and make 2-3 if desired! toward the nape draw up strands to curl mass and pin leaving a tail that you curl around your fingers and pin just like the rest! This works for 1 length or layered wigs! Spritz finished sections! tease bangs and comb into a fan shape or other desired shape! SPRAY use a razor to feather the fringe around face or to cut bangs!
Note any hair that is left in a comb or brush wad up lightly then stuff under curls to add fullness just like a rat!! It is harder to explain than do!
I can send you copies of text pages explaining curls, styling etc!
Be creative And Feel free to ask any questions!
To curl them there is many ways ,
one way is to get hard plastic rollers wrap and pin to wig as seen in text warm with a hair dryer on low too hot and the curl wil melt and burn!
Allow to cool for a few hours or less depending on chill in the air and un-roll!

WOW! Fleur, that is a great class! I have a long hairpiece but it looks like HAGRID's hair right now. It used to be curly (and match my hair) but it went really knotty one day (and I went Platinum [silver grey to some]). I had to comb it out and it just went "POOF" Hagrid! Now I just need the beard piece and moustache piece to match! :rofl :rofl

Good! Spray and roll away!! if you feel scared of curling get the hard plastic curlers/rollers (sally beauty) spray and pull them out of the curl after dry then pin down in desired style! other curlers will stick! Mix it up with standing and flat curls! these come in sets or in individual diffrent sizes and are super cheap at wholesale or pro price! I can sell them to anyone who wants them!
