Ladies i need some help. I am half way through making the TV225 fantail skirt with the train. I have also made the TV121 petticoat to wear underneath it.
Do i need to make the train for the petticoat or do i just make a dust ruffle for the skirt, or should i make both. Im not sure what is right or what will look better. I know the back needs something to lift it a little. That bow isnt complete, its just a scrap i was playing with.
If i make both the petticoat train and the dust ruffle, would i attach the dust ruffle to the underside of the petticoat? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but i havent really seen any pictures of how it would work.
This is what it looks like so far... Picture is a little dark..
Thanks

Ohhhhhh!!!! Pretty! If you have already made the petticoat, I would say just to make the dust ruffle. That way you can detach it and wash it easily. What color is that fabric really? It's awfully nice looking!

Clancy, I love a removable dust ruffle. It is so much less to throw in the washing machine. I attach mine with buttons sewn to the hem underneath.

LL... this is the fabric for my dress. It is chocolate colour. The fabric has a slight raised stripe in it which is like a velvet.
The orange and brown strip jacket looks better than the picture shows.
Thanks for the tip Fannie on the dust ruffle.

Hi Clancy,
I love the outfit! The new brown and peach one will be a beauty too.
Seems the stores in Sacramento do not have nice prints or stripes in anything but quilter's cottons.
Maybe I should go to San Francisco..when I have an arm and a leg to spare.
Regards,
Allie

Clancy I love your fabric choices.
Could someone explain to me the construction of a removeable dust ruffle? How does it attach to the skirt? If I sew buttonholes to the underneath of the hem to button it on, how does it stay up without flapping? Do I handbaste it on?

Deb, I found this thread on the Truly Victorian board to be very helpful. Perhaps Fannie would be so kind as to post a picture of her dress with the dust ruffle?

Give me a little time, I'll go dig out the peacock dress and take a picture of the dust ruffle and post it.

As promised, here are pictures of a dust ruffle. I use inexpensive muslin and lace to make these.

I use ties and buttons to attach the dust ruffle. I sew a button hole in the dust ruffle and a button on the underside of the hem.

On this one I also used ties at the 2 top corners with a button in the middle.
