Thanks Nellie for re-sizing my photo!
This is how I got my SASS name, Miss Ruby Redsmoke.
This photo was taken at our 2005 Nationals/Regionals in the Top Gun shoot off.

Ruby, that's great! How did you get the red smoke? I keep trying to talk the black powder shooters around here to put some pot pourri in their shells.

It's actually a powdered concrete dye! Just put it in when reloading.

In actuallity, the "red smoke" is a red DUST cloud.....
The redness (red coloured "oxide" used to colour concrete as it is mixed) is added to the shot column while handloading shotshells :)
It can be messy, both in the fabrication and in gun dirtyness. It can be used in handloaded BlackPowder and Smokeless rounds.
It's also funn to have some lightly loaded "red" shotshells on hand for the interested "first timer" Lady or junior person who has expressed an interest..... but have "never shot a gun before... will it hurt me ?" :D
I be happy to help any one ready to start making their own "Miss Ruby Redsmokers" ;)
I, too, dabble a little in this "red" art.....

Found one... you can still see some of the red. Wish I had a good pic of the blue or the feathers flying out. What a fun day that was. btw, I used chalk for refilling chalk line reels for my color.

Miss Mo,
It has been found that the red seems to show up better with most backgrounds.
The background colour and shading is what affects the "visibility" of the product, with shadows being the factor with the most effect.
I, too, have tried other colours, including "Ultra Marine Blue"......... I'll stick to tha red if I want them seen.
I even tried glitter, but you'd need to have the sun at your back in the late afternoon to see them, or be "spotlighting" clay targets.
'Tis fun at first, but after a while folks start expecting it :o
I haven't seen lavender or pink concrete around ..........;)

Wallaby,
"I haven't seen lavender or pink concrete around .........."
That would be in southern Kalifornia.
Sorry to all who live there I just could not resist.
