Gosh darn it, I have decided to go to the pistol range tomorrow and smoke the other shooters out of there and have it all to myself. Originally I was going to change the oil in my car and do some cleaning. Well played hookey from work today so I can change the oil and do the cleaning today. I plan to make my 1858 Remingtons smoke, and if I can put it back together again, do the same with my 1851 Colt. Then again, if I put it back toether again, I may not shoot the 1851 because I was the one that put it back together. I am going to print out some Osama bin Laden targets and use them. evilb: Any one going to a match or the range this weekend? I am going to practice my deulist shooting, and if the range officer is not looking, do a couple of gunfighter rounds.

Well, I found out what is wrong with my 1851 Colt, the hand and spring, which attaches to the hammer, broke. After some researching, this seems to be a piece that breaks easily and frequently. It is a $5.00 piece I can order from VTI Gunparts. I got the gun back together with the exception of this piece and the trigger. I can't get the trigger back in.

MMO'S
May get to the dump/range tomorrow, IF I get my chores done. I also have an 1851 and an 1860 Army (the 44 caliber) the 58 is so much easier to take apart and assemble. Course I been doing the 58 for bout 25 years.
Love to shoot both. First stage I shot both, I had 5 misses, 2 misses next stage adn cleaned everything else. Soons the weather warms up I'll smoke up Mine Branch again. Hope LMB is the RO.

Macon, I noticed in your pic on the other thread that you had shotshells on in the bandoleer. I just wondered how this worked for you. I have shot with mine only about twice. I wore it on my left shoulder and pulled shells 1 @ a time with my right (weak) hand. Curious how you worked with it. If you did this or something different. :)

At the match I fill the bandoleer by putting two in, leave a space, then two more, leave a space, and so on. I just pull two at a time. Loading from a bandoleer may be slow, but I like how it looks. :)

I like the look too, especially when i wear my baja shirt and sombrero.... I single load the 97. I should practice with it more and get some use out of it. Only used it twice in 2 years. That just ain't enough! :) Thanks~

I just got back from the range. Shot both my 1858 Remingtons, burned lots of powder, and made lots of smoke. I am not too worried about meeting the new blackpowder standard that has been passed. I load each chamber up with 30 grains of powder. The pistol bay was full today, and of course I was the only one shooting black powder. People always look my way when I start shooting. It is usually a combination of the loud boom and the cloud of smoke that lingers for about a minute. I did make a couple mad, and they left. I kept shooting. I shot using both hands to start off with, and then switched to double duelist. I feel comfortable enough now to shoot double duelist. I needed more practice shooting weak hand, my right hand. I had no problem left handed. After I was done, the range officers had to replace the back boarding before anyone else could use that lane. It looked like someone shot a cannon ball through the board.
Here are the two targets, shot two handed, that destroyed the back board.

Very good grouping.
Shot mine a little this afternoon, not going for group size, but speed. I need to make sure I can outshoot my new shooter for a couple of more months.
Scores from last week are not posted yet, but I think I got him on misses. His raw time was already better than mine for 4 of 6 stages. Soon the Apprentice will become the Master.
Course, he's less than 1/2 my age.

Unfortunately, I really can't do much to practice for speed. The range has a wait two seconds between each shot rule.

"Two seconds between each shot"........
....you can practice at that speed as much as you like........ if we are gonna be shootin' agin eachother..;)
Is that just a BP safety rulin' or, a standard "roolin'" 'cause sommon thaught it were a gud idee...... ?
2 seconds don't sound usefull.

Two seconds is for all guns, both rifle and pistols. I think if I was in the pistol range by myself, and not many people in the rifle bay, I would probably be allowed to shoot faster. The range officers like me there and they know I know how to shoot and handle a gun. I shot a cap and ball for goodness sakes, and from my targets, I shoot better than most of the pistol shooters there. They are completely amazed at the accuracy of my out of the box stock Piettas. I also shoot my high powered rifles there, and shoot better than most of the rifle shooters.
The day I was shooting there, some junior gangster wannabe did rapid fire five shots. Range officer came in and threw them out. I saw their target. I think they hit paper twice, and the target was about 10 yards.
